I'm torn. This guy would seemingly be a great addition to a team like Edmonton. He can't be worse than Schultz. On the other hand, this is the Blackhawks, they rarely make mistakes so what don't we know?
I wouldnt be surprised if a team like Edmonton claims him
I think if he lands in a team that's willing to give him an oportunity he can a good add.
I don't see the Oilers claiming him. They have been shuffling guys up and down as it is. Rundblad isn't much of an upgrade to what they already have but that's my opinion. Maybe Chiarelli sees something in Rundblad I don't.

I love Rundblad threads.
I shall refrain from going back to search for the ol' original Rundblad-hype-train thread.
But I do love to nail an analysis!
[Some of the old guard may remember the thread I'm talking aboot.]
That second year of the deal might be a problem for teams. If there was only a one year commitment then I think more team might take a chance on him.
50 in 55 in the SHL.
39 in 50 in the AHL.
I'll admit, I was excited about his potential.
D-men are so fickle. So tough to predict at times.

The hype was all about Rundblad's SEL numbers, which is a watered down league by talent that doesn't compare to leagues in NA.
People were all hell-bent that because his numbers (50in55) seemed better than Lidstrom's SEL numbers (23in38) at sim age... that Rundblad was destined (that was the vibe) to be a future NHL star.
The issue though (that people failed to grasp) was that the SEL was a strong league in Lidstrom's day (late 80s),
but once the Swedish players started jumping over to NA at a young age, it became a watered down league.
People looked at Rundblad's 50pts in 55gp and just said Ooooo and Aaaaaaa.
Of course, that same league had 7th round NHL draft pick Byron Ritchie scoring 44pts in 53gp.
Byron. Ritchie.
5th Leading Scorer.
Byron. Ritchie.
That's all people really should've needed to know to temper their excitement on Rundblad's numbers.

Also, Skelleftea AIK was a league scoring juggernaut that year with the league's two highest scorers: Joakim Lindstrom and Mikko Lehtonen.
Comparably, Joakim Lindstrom also went on to the NHL to have a dynamic career (sarcasm).
FWIW - I doubt Karlsson/Rundblad would've ever become a pair.
Teams don't pair a RH-offensive defenseman with another RH-offensive defenseman.
But his AHL year was the year of the lockout -- so that was arguably the most competitive, skill-filled half-season the AHL has seen in awhile.
D-men ahead of him that year (although not in PPG) were Krug and Vatanen.
Of course it's also the year of J. Schultz domination in that league, so....

I'm not thinking that Rundblad is going to be a world beater. I just want someone better or at least different from Justin Schultz...
