The Predators remain in a waiting game with unsigned prospect Jimmy Vesey. Vesey could be the best player in college hockey, and he can become a UFA on August 15th if he’s not signed before then. The Maple Leafs hired his dad as a scout this past offseason. The Leafs say it was Vesey who reached out to them about a potential position. The Leafs drafted Jimmy’s younger brother in the 6th round of the 2014 draft. Predators GM David Poile said there is a NHL spot for Jimmy if he decides to sign with them.

Jeez, they still have until next August. Are they that worried about it that they are talking about it now?

What are your guys expectations of Vesey for next year? Think he can be a 50 point player in his first year?

He'll sign where he can play NHL right away but who knows where that'll be. Therefor, it would be pointless to try and predict.
Is he a player I should target in a money keeper, 15 manager, 24 player roster, top 12 forwards count towards pts, top 4 defense count towards points, top 1 goalie counts towards points?
In a league that size, I think the question needs to be asked now.
And yeah, I think he's probably worth looking at -- my league is a little bit bigger than yours (13 owners, but 35 players; with same setup) but we have a 12/6 F/D split -- so I'm guessing Fs have more value in yours.
He's unowned in our league right now, but I'm guessing that'll change when we draft again. And I'd think he's more valuable than a bunch of prospects that are owned in our league. Depending on who you'd be dropping, I think he's worth a look.
Points-only, Full Keeper Dynasty League
Active roster (no starts, just total points): 12 FW, 6 D, 1 Goalie
Forwards: Kucherov, Barkov, Teravainen, Seguin, Hoffman, Lindholm, Gusev, Horvat, Meier, Perron, Schwartz, Johansen, Pavelski, Buchnevich, Hischier, Granlund, Bracco
Defense: Josi, Dahlin, Letang, Gostisbehere, Ekman-Larsson, Petry, Slavin, Keith, Matheson
Goal: Lehner, Holtby, Varlamov
Farm: Soderstrom, York, Woo, Tracey, Dorofeyev
What’s the average team makeup?
24 players
12F, 4D, 1G are counted
15F, 6D, 3G rostered?
15F x 15managers = 225 rostered Forwards.
225th player in the NHL right now for points is Jesper Fast at 24.6pts/82games.
Maybe I spoke too soon to say something that blunt. But it’s too early to pick him up, but depends on who you drop

In that set-up, it's okay to carry some guys that have higher upside, even if they take awhile.
I'd rather gamble on Vesey than Fast personally, and I'm guessing there are a lot of guys ahead of Fast in the scoring right now that aren't worth hanging on to as well.
Again, it depends on what other prospects are available and who'd you'd drop (and whether or not you've got a team that's competing right now and need to use those depth spots on safer, low-upside guys) -- but it's not just a matter of whether or not he's the 225th best player in the NHL, but rather whether or not he can be top 175.

Vesey talks about his reasoning for staying in school in this soudbit. It sounds like school is very important to him and his family which is the main reason he stayed for his senior year at Harvard.

If he was going to sign in Nashville he would have done it already.
