I believe the Sharks are down to 2 teams in the Timo Meier trade talks and my sense is those 2 teams are New Jersey and Vegas. So, still work to be done. Obviously a fluid situation, but I think that's where things are at right now.

With the #Canes out on Timo Meier, look for them to attempt to add at multiple positions now.

They’re still on the hunt for increased firepower and finishing touch. But they’ve made calls to teams in recent days looking for a left-shot defenseman to upgrade on D as well.

I really wonder if the field on Meier dwindling to two teams is the result of Vegas/NJD stepping up their offers or simply a bunch of teams not wanting to get left without a seat in the game of musical chairs and pivoting to a safe plan B.

Whatever the case, it looks like if anyone has missed out it's Carolina.

Agree - now Carolina pivots and is well-placed to add Chychrun, as rumored, and his fantasy value on that team would be huge even without PP1 time.

Vegas just traded for Barbashev but they can still do Meier, but my money is on the Devils - it just makes too much sense.

As a Swiss, I sure hope it's NJ. The addition of yet another Swiss in Meier (besides Hischier, Siegenthaler and Schmid) would make the Devils basically the official NHL team of Switzerland. Heck, even the red and white color scheme fits that theme like a glove.

It’s a huge factor imo. Imagine how psyched all of these guys would be if Meier comes in? One of the key reasons why this is such an obvious move for the Devils - but Grier knows this and likely is seeking to extract even more return as a result.

I never saw carolina giving up what it would take to get Meier. It'll take a few pieces, and I don't recall the kas time Carolina did something like that. They're much more a product of a good system and moving a few pieces of that system never seemed likely. They have their way of doing things , unique to the nhl. We'll see if it pays off in a cup one of these years.

Haha - Baertschi is playing hockey back home (with rather modest results). Nope, besides Niederreiter it would have to be Josi and Fiala in the offseason to make NJ's collection complete. But I doubt NSH is THAT much a seller lol

i would think trading for someone like Nino or Beartschi could be a swiss factor...trading for Meier is trading for one of best PF in the game ....sure it may help that they got Hischier on the team but i don think it matters.

Depth should be ok too with guys like JJ Moser, Pius Suter, Denis Malgin, Philip Kurashev or Sven Andrighetto. If Schmid can develop into a bona fide NHL goalie, we would be solid on all positions.

I kept thinking Hischier and Meier played together in Halifax but I just looked and I guess they missed each other by a year. 2 of my favorite former Mooseheads though. Devils have been climbing up my list of favorite teams these days.

I still don't understand why San Jose wants to move on from Meier unless they get a crazy haul. Shouldn't they be focusing their rebuild around guys like him?

He’s 26 and they’re in year 1 of admitting they’re in a rebuild. He’ll be over 30 by the time they’re remotely close to competitive. They absolutely should be trading him.
