The first trade was OK, he was a key part of a cup winning team on his ELC, had to go. It's the return I don't get but I can say the same for Sharp, Ladd, Shaw, etc. It's a Bowman fetish I guess.

Gilbert is an underrated piece here in multicats- he was averaging like 3 hits which is over 200 prorated over 82 games. I had quietly picked him up in most leagues. Theyve got waaaaay too much talent in Colorado though and Im worried he doesnt even have a regular shift there...

I'm not sure this is a fair assessment. When they traded Lehner in February, I'm not sure they saw the impact Covid would have on NHL + salary cap.
Plus, Chicago fired their President/CEO in April; the Atheletic reported today that John McDonough would not sign off on a rebuild in Chicago. That's no longer the case with his replacement.
I just don't think it's fair to look back at a decision they made in February, to criticize a move made in October...
