Not sure if this is more due to VAN not believing in Dahlen or SJ just really wanted him. Either way, the third NHL team for young Dahlen. Considering a lot of folks had him pegged as a long term option in the top six for Vancouver, it certainly makes me wonder.

On the surface this doesn't look great however Benning seems to have a good eye for prospect level talent. I remember how bad initially the Shinkaruk trade looked for Granlund. Even memes at Bennings expense on that one and it worked out great for our end. As a Canucks fan Benning hasn't been perfect but I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, judging his body of work.

Could this be the first NHL trade made, specifically planning out the Seattle expansion?? Van would need to protect Dahlen... They won't have to protect Karlsson. he'll be exempt.

They hoped Dahlen would be like Petterssen lite but he’s more like Goldobin lite. Another project and they’re probably not interested in that.

That's poor asset management if a GM trades a prospect for a lesser asset just because he asked for a trade. He's under no obligation to do so.

Dahlen was at peak hype after his first point-per-game season in Allsvenskan. Then he levelled off and his North American play hasn't exactly knocked your socks off.
