Blues retain 50% of salary.

I really like this trade for the Jets!!

They desperately needed to acquire a C via trade, looks like they paid the price to land a rental.

Lots to pay, but they arguably needed some solid, experienced depth at C for a serious playoff run.

Wow, another trade within the same division. The Blues help the Jets get better, I do not really understand that but I guess the price was right.

The Winnipeg Jets have acquired forward Paul Stastny from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for a first-round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft, forward Erik Foley and a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft.

Is Stl. calling it a season? I can't see why they'd mail order a really good depth C to a team they're battling with for playoff seeding

I really hope to see Stastny with Laine and Ehlers. Those two haven't had chemistry with Little.

STL got a good prospect in Foley. Solid future as middle-six winger.

If they were to make the space I can't see why they'd hold the max 50% of Stastny's contract.

The idea of winning the cup vs just making the playoffs I think has come to most teams drawing board. A team like NJD where even 1 playoff round will bring in a lot of money for them makes their choice of going for it big, but a team like Chicago and the Blues figure if they aren't going to go deep, might as well sell off assets.

The thought if you aren't going to win it all, why trade to make the playoffs kinda seems very fantasy league like, or NBA/NFL/MLB (more not trying to be good since there's super teams tho in some of the cases)

I think STL looks at this as a chance to recoup the 1st rd pick they gave PHL for Schenn while not taking themselves out of the playoff race.

Losing Stastny is not going to kill their opportunity to get back in the race. They still have tons of talent and maybe this is a shake-up by management to get them motivated again
