Default Drafting Marcus Stroman / Trout vs. Harper

    10 Team / 4 keeper / Yahoo H2H

    Pitchers: SP x2 - RP x2 - P x3
    Bench: x5 + DL x2

So I am a huge Blue Jays fan and would really like to draft Marcus Stroman, the problem is I don't want to use a too high of a pick on him if I don't have to but I also don't want to let him slip. Yahoo has him listed at an average draft position of 112 while I have seen him listed as high as 60 in some draft rankings. How do I approach this going into the draft, target him at the 60-70 range or wait a few more rounds and hope he is still available?

The draft is next Thursday evening and I hold the first overall pick. So who do I take, Trout or Harper. Almost all pre-draft rankings have Tout -1 and Harper - 2 but I have seen the odd rankings where their positions are flipped. What would you guys do?

In my recent one-year draft I just completed, Stroman went 88th overall in a pool full of Jays fans, if that helps give you an idea where he may go (no, it wasn't me who drafted him that early). I thought that was early for him but I am not surprised he went earlier than expected.

FWIW, Trout went 1st overall, Harper went 5th. As I say, the pool was full of Jays fans (co-workers) and in a 5x5 Yahoo pool and someone also reached for Josh Donaldson, taking him 2nd overall.

Top 5 went: Trout, Donaldson, Goldschmidt, Kershaw and then Harper.

Without diving too deep into details, I’d say Stroman should go 80-95. That’s where I’d see him going. I’d be happy to own him, but I’m not reaching on him too far. FWIW I think Sanchez now that he’s worked in the curveball and put on weight has the best chance out of all the Jays pitchers to be a CY Young winner. However, in a keep 4, I don’t think he’d be there this yr.

ADP vs Output, Sanchez>Stroman. If he’s a starter.

As for Trout vs Harper….I’d still pick Trout. Trout has a higher floor than Harper.

My Rankings would be (in a non Ks League), Trout, Gold, Harper, Kershaw, Donaldson, Stanton, Rizzo, Scherzer

RW: Pavelski (C), Giroux (C), Svechnikov (LW)
D: Fox, Makar, Bouchard, Morrissey, Gudas
    Util: Meier (LW, RW)
    G: Oettinger, Georgiev, Samsonov, Woll

Trout should be your #1 as he'll give you roughly the same power numbers, runs and RBI's as Harper but will have more SB's

Stroman is a reasonable pick in the 85-100 range
