Default Bobrovsky vs Markstrom + Okposo

    Hi! Team in sig.

I'm currently in the middle of the pack, so no real chance to win. My weaknesses are in net, especially SV%. I'm also weak in +/-, but that trade won't really affect that. I'm at the top for in PTS and PPP, even with Tavares and Zetterberg down.

I've been offered Bob for my Markstrom and Okposo.

I like this trade, but I'm really torn to accept. Okposo at 2.8M$ is a bargain (until 2015-2016) in our setup and Markstrom is a really nice prospect in goal... My hesitation is that I might be moving too early, since I'm not in it for this year.

Also, carrying two goalies that count for more than 12M$ on the cap will make it difficult.

15 teams. Thats a different sized league.

As far as your post goes, I easily prefer Bobrovsky to Markstrom/Okposo but I can understand your hesitation considering your goalie situation. I assume you only start 1 goalie per night and Rask will be locked in for those starts over pretty much any goalie. Thats a lot of cap sitting on your bench.

Personally with Rask already on your roster, I wouldn't bother making this deal as its not really an upgrade for you.

We set our rosters weekly and it's 2 goalies that count.

We used to have 3 stats for goalies and after a few years, we were forced to reduce it to 2. It was just too much.

I made the gamble that Rask would be enough to compensate for Thomas. I didn't see Thomas having 0.908SV% though. Was hoping for something more along the line of .915...

I think I would stand pat honestly. I'm not really a huge fan of Okposo, but I think it's fair to say he's (at worst) a 60-point player going forward with upside for considerably more, conditioned upon him riding shotgun with John Tavares. Markstrom, on the other hand, is what puts this deal in the "loss" category for me. You're not only dealing a young forward in a breakout season, but adding an elite goaltending prospect to the mix is just too much for me. I'm inclined to believe that Bobrovsky is definitely legit as a #1, but I feel like Markstrom could be just as valuable in 2-3 seasons.

If you're competing right now, it's a much different story, and in that case Markstrom/Okposo is an acceptable loss in return for shoring up your goaltending to compete for a title. But since you're a middle of the pack team with "no real chance to win," I would be looking toward next season and beyond. I think in that universe, Okposo/Markstrom represents more value to your club's title aspirations than Bobrovsky on his own. Also depends on the FA quality of forwards who are available; if you can add somebody legit, it makes this whole situation a bit different. But assuming the size of your league, and the dynasty format in general, I wouldn't imagine many quality players are left on your waiver wire.

As such, I would be against making this trade in your current situation.

My pool's trade deadline is coming tonight.

With Thomas being dealt to Dallas and Markstrom to Vancouver, should I still stand still?
