Ugh, I'm going to miss out on my window to see NHL hockey in a college hockey-sized rink. I shouldn't have put so much faith in the 3-5 year estimate of them staying in Mullett.
The major difference is the Coyotes are no longer playing in an NHL facility, and has no prospect to do so. Updating the above, I think we’ll know by the end of February that the Coyotes are moving to SLC (I guess some other market is possible, but they won’t be in PHX next season).
I also wouldn’t be surprised if in lieu of some of the expansion draft benefits, the SLC franchise gets some incentives, maybe a compliance buyout or two, guaranteed draft slot placement for a year or two (guaranteed top 10), things like that.

Time to start thinking of new names?
The Salt Lake City Lamanites?
Listening to Friedman's hit on Marek today - sure sounds like this ownership group is in trouble. Tough to summarize but it's worth a listen - in essence they want clarity from the ownership about buying the land and building this new arena and it isnt expected any time soon; they may already be over the line in terms of how long the NHL was willing to wait.
if the league buys the team I'd be curious to see what the franchise valuation comes in at .

I suspect theyll use 'Utah' and not 'Salt Lake' like they do for the Utah Jazz.

They wont, but “Lake City” is the coolest of the options.
i just hope, whatever teh first part of teh moniker is, the last part isn't a "singular" like Lightning, Jazz, Wild, Aura, Sky, Reign, Thunder, Kraken..i don't know why, i just don't care for that as a Team name.
there are many people on a team, so why a singular team name?

The Charlotte Hornets have a City jersey for this season that says "Buzz City" on the front. It's part of the leagues "City Edition" jerseys, where like Philly has "City of Brotherly Love" on it, New Orleans has "Nola". I would hope they can do something like that. But knowing the NHL, that's too fun so they won't be allowed to do that.

I love team names... because they all now have to contends with trademarks and whether they are taken.
Utah has a better hockey team ring to it than Salt Lake (City)... though I could see just "Salt Lake".
Utah is doing OK with ECHL attendance, about 9th.

For opponents...
to their West: Vegas Golden Knights (black/gold)
to their East: Colorado Avalanche (purply/navy)
I'll go boring:
Utah (____) Miners
Go hard on two tones of gray with maybe copper for color.
[Just like VGK... they may have to find a third word to get around modern trademarking.]
(something like this)
And with that name... their social media accounts... {clears throat}... can take some... *digs*... at the golden boys (VGK) and mountaineers (Avs).
