Wow, really blowing it up there.
Sounds like the Flames will be trading Tkachuk per Eric Francis. It's rumoured could be done this week.

So what could they possible get in return? Is it a straight up one for one with another superstar who doesn't like his current situation but who? I can't imagine a team losing two franchise players within a couple of weeks.

I would think a trade that makes sense if both parties want it to happen is Tarasenko for MT?

It's meant more as a base and to make salaries work for both teams. Then you can either keep Tara (extend him in January) or move him for more assets.
But really, I have no idea what the trade value MT would have if he's known to be heading to a certain team as soon as he hits FA. Maybe you can sell a couple of teams on the idea of keeping him over St Louis just like how Gaudreau went to a team no one really thought he'd go to.

If he signed is QO, he's a UFA next summer. If he goes to arbitration, he can select a 1 year arbitration award and be a UFA next year. You can't be this naive, Calgary has close to zero leverage.
The only two options are:
1) Sign Tkachuk to a 4+ year contract before arbitration
2) Trade him.
If he says he's not doing 1, you have to do 2.
what an absolutely brutal week for the Flames and their fans if true. I am unsure if Johnny staying wouldve led to Matthew staying but it is hard to not think it relates to another
Calgary is better off re-tooling if not rebuilding altogether.
One day I will quit fantasy hockey, today is not that day.
Yes if true Calgary has no choice but to blow it up. I think Tkachuk sees no future with the Flames. Even though it wasn’t Calgary’s fault for not signing Johnny, that may be the straw that breaks the camels back in Calgary. This clearly shows that Tkachuk will not be playing in Calgary after his contract is up, even earlier. You have to get the most you can get for him and move on. If this is true at least he gave them a heads up. If St. Louis is in play the you’d have to want maybe a Kyrou/Thomas deal coming back.

Oh and if he is going I suspect Lindholm won’t be far behind.
