I dont see anything wrong with it.
Would have been nice to know before hand but by giving them 15th overall....pretty fair.
Hello Respected Dobber Community,
I am going to give you a scenario and I want to know if you think it is bush league or legit organization of a fantasy hockey dynasty league.
- New league gets set up and trying to get 30 owners like lots of dynasty leagues.
- Get 28 owners successfully and decide that is good enough
- with 28 owners, have a draft lottery to determine order
- set draft to start Saturday May 20 (Tomorrow)
- allow trades to occur, with lots of trades happening between the rookie draft and the player draft.
- Decide today, Friday May 19, less then 24 hours until the draft is supposed to start, to add another team... and decide to give him 15th overall pick.
- results in an odd number of teams - 29
Let me know any and all your thoughts and feel free to answer the poll.

As for the pool I'd vote neither. It's an inconvenience but not a major one and new leagues always undergo a lot of changes. It's part of starting up a league.
At the end of the day it's up to you to decide how you feel about it. If this crosses your line then just walk away.

I wouldn't use the term "bush league"... but there's lots of rookie commissioner mistakes here.
Obv - teams start planning and trading once they have established value.
Maybe GM-A learns he has the #13 pick, maybe he makes a list, really likes his top 16 picks, trades down with GM-B and receives the #16 and gets an extra pick at #100.
This new team is inserted at #15... and now GM-A has assets that shift to the #17 pick and the #103 pick. [VALUE LOST]
Well, now GM-B owns the #13 pick [VALUE seems unchanged, but actually VALUE UP since the deeper the pool the better the elite player pick IS.]
And that could be a BIG DEAL, depending on whether teams have traded up or traded down. (which is what's happening before the draft).
So, yeah, big thumbs down to the commissioner.
(FWIW, I personally reserve use of the term "Bush League" for something intentionally poorly/shadily run. I think you just have a green-commissioner that hasn't been around enough and doesn't know numbers super well.)
Im assuming it's not an h2h league?
Also, would it have made a difference if the commish told everyone that "If we get more teams interested between now and the draft we're going to let him/her in and give them the 15th overall pick"
Would trades not have went down because I could have dropped a couple spots?
I really think it wouldn't have mattered that much.
Redo the draft lottery. Easiest fix to me. It would have been done with the extra team anyway..
Or insert the late joiner last. 29th pick.
