I thought the same about the 90 minute one. A bit malty for my liking. It is a highly respected brew though. Very high marks on Beer Advocate. My idea of an IIPA is less malty and more hoppy. Personal taste I guess. The 90 minute seemed more like a Belgian IPA if you get my draft.

Oh lord I am drooling. I have planted a fig tree in the median of a street here in DC (along with some basil - hooray for guerilla gardening!), and my next harvest I will be having this again. Haven't made them yet this summer (gorgonzola and almonds, yes), but because I have no grill, I have to mooch off my friend's when possible.

I agree that dates are good, but figs are easily on my top five fruit list.

P.S. I have gotten some interesting responses and some insight into people's personalities by working the five favorite fruit question into cocktail party talk.

Or an IDA (i.e. India dark ale. Not sure if I just made that up).

I agree about the Dogfish in general. Went to the brewery years back and felt like all the guys there would talk about was how extreme everything was. Beer is four ingredients - there's no reason to blow out any of the flavors to the detriment of the others. As Lao Tzu said "..the Sage avoids extremes."

Seems as if I need to revisit figs. The entire sum total of my lifetime experiences with figs consists of them in newton form twice. I know that's not a fair assessment of figs, but it's that whole psychological barrier. Whenever I hear the word fig I immediately think of fig newtons and that effectively kills my interest.

Kinda like if you eat something then get sick, even if that food wasn't what made you sick, your brain starts associating that food with something to avoid.

    So in short blame Nabisco...

To push this thread back towards its original intent, this is why I can't drink Piel's or Milwaukee's Best anymore (that and the crappy taste).

Yeah, it's like how Bud Light gives me a tummy ache similar to having too many sweets as a kid. Dead serious. Plus, it's awful, but I'm a man and I need real beer.

Speaking of, I think I'm going to grab a Blind Pig that I still have while I eat some Brats soon.

Drinking Hofbrau Orig tonight. I think it usurps Stella in my every day beer cat.

okay, so I'm going to marinate the brats for tomorrow instead. Which beer do I use? Pliny, Blind Pig, Bass, Summerfest by Sierra Nevada or Stella?

I'd rule out Pliny and Blind Pig right off the bat. Those beers are too good to be used that way. Summerfest is close behind. That leaves Bass and Stella and I lean towards Bass.

I love Bass. I guess I'll go Stella then.

I don't think you could go wrong with either Stella or Bass there.

I would have broke down in tears to hear you had marinated the brats in Pliny or Blind Pig instead of washing them down with those most excellent brews.

Kicked back watching RHCP Live at Slane Castle drinking some Fat Tire.
