Trade Giroux?

Hi all

another manager in the league in my sig wants Giroux. I won the championship last season, with a bit of luck.

He proposed me E.Staal, Parise and Krug. Which does not really interest me since these are aging players and my team is old enough already.

He said that Giordano, Buf and even Johnson might be available.

By trading away Giroux I would take a big hit a C, plus he was the second best player in our format last season. However, I have an aging team and could use some younger players.

I was thinking of offering Giroux for Johnson + Byfuglien or Hall +Krug

His team is stacked

C: Stamkos, Johnson, Stepan, Staal, Koivu, Datsyuk
LW: Benn, Hall, Parise, Hartnell, Palat
RW: Hornqvist, Gaborik, Hayes , Boedker
D: Byfuglien, Shattenkirk, Giordano, Savard, Ekblad, Krug

If you are taking a bit hit at center than ask for one of his in return. I'd be looking at Stepan or Johnson along with someone like Palat or Hall for Giroux at the very least.

There's nothing that says you have to trade Giroux but if you are willing to do it, you might as well be up front with him on your intentions and expectations as far as what you expect in return. If you want to gain some youth, let him know this. If he's not willing to pay a fair price for Giroux, then don't trade him.

I don't particularly see a reason to trade Giroux (elite talent for the next 5-7 years) but if you're set on it, I'd start with Hall + Johnson. In fact, I'd say Hall or Benn is a required asset to trade Giroux to this GM.

The second asset could be one of Johnson (preferred), Stepan, Shattenkirk, Palat, Hornqvist, Giordano

Yep, if only so slightly. Giroux does everything Benn does, especially in a league without PIM's. Don't get me wrong - I believe in Benn - but with these categories (PPP and FOW specifically), Giroux is a top 5-7 lock.

And my recommendation came primarily from the belief that nothing else on the other GM's roster should entice as a primary trade piece.

Don't trade Giroux. I traded him after a slow start to the season and have regretted it ever since.

I think I'll keep Giroux. I wasn't planning trading without getting Hall + in return.

It is just that I am getting a bit worried about the age of my team, which is getting pretty old (Zets, Ribeiro, Williams, Markov Chara). I cannot get anything close to fair value in this league. To give an idea, I've been trying to move Zetterberg for years and the best offer I got was Chris Stewart.

I'll try to move a D to improve my forwards.
