he still has a year left on his current deal so this takes into effect next year.

wonder how much he got...anything under 4M would be pretty good.

    still think he's overrated though...

    Overrated... yeah I can agree..

He would be better if he treated every opposing centre as if they were Malkin or Crosby. Seems like he only brings his A game against those guys.

no he only played above his head against Malkin that one playoff series.

should have just packaged him with schenn for Weber, they would have been able to re-sign Weber at a cheaper rate than the offer sheet contract too.

    i guess hindsight is 20/20...

One of the most overrated guys in the league. He does have the ability to elevate his game at times but is way too inconsistent in my view. The comparisons I've seen of him to Patrice Bergeron or Kesler are doing both those guys a disservice.

Apologies on Couturier -- did the math wrong. Six year deal carries $4.33M AAV.

    $4m.
Well, on one side, Couturier IS the Flyers C2... and $4m+ is the going rate for C2s.
On the other side, Couturier really isn't an NHL C2 yet.

    Meh.

Agreed! The classic case of ''What have you done for me lately''

If Lars Eller makes 3.5m, how does Couturier go and get almost 1m extra (besides having a good agent)?!

Decent contract but lots of better players will be making less than him.

I expected a more venomous response from you Big Ev. C'mon, where is that fiery hatred of Philly's favorite #2 centreman.
I just hope this somehow inspires Couts to score more than 40 points per year.

$4.3 isn't too bad. He's signed for a while and doesn't have a NTC, so I like that part. I dont think that he is overpaid too much right now and I definitely think he will grow into that contract. He's only 22 right now and that contact will look pretty good when he is 25. He is signed until he is 28.

In his defense, this is the same guy who tallied 7 points in 10 games during the World Championships in May. Maybe a case could be made that he's being overpaid if his role is going to continue; however, who's to say he might not get a chance to strut his stuff more in coming years?

Bottom line until Philly put him a position to succeed offensively his job is to shutdown.

Canada scored 66 goals in just 10 games in that tournament by destroying some really weak teams, so that says absolutely nothing. I doubt the Flyers will ever have a 541 goal season.
