Well, Detroit said they wanted to get a RHS point man. They got their man.

I expected Franson to go here.

I think this is a decent signing, even for the money. He's an offence first defenseman, but I think his defensive deficiencies have been overblown a bit. If you insulate him with a more defensive defenseman, he'll be worth his contract. Should be a boost for the Red Wings PP.

RH offensive D who'll be turning 30 as the season starts, signed for just 3 seasons and at (fractionally) below the cap hit he previously carried? Looks decent to me.

Oh wow. I like it! Great spot for Green, and not a crazy length term for Detroit. It's not cheap, but I think it'll be a good fit for both parties.

    Personally, it seems just strange.
I don't know why... but it just doesn't feel like Detroit was a fit for Green - other than needing a RH stick.

As for his role on the PP... Mike Green probably has a better slapshot than Kronwall, IMO.
I think DET fans are used to Kronwall's cannon... but Mike Green is no slouch with that shot - it's an absolute rocket... and Green can pick corners lanes than what I've seen from Knowall (who just rips).
I think they'll use them both, but Green won't be deferring to Kronwall - if the shot is there, Green will take it.

Green will man the left point (RH) on the PP with Kronwall over on the right point (LH).
It will be a different PP-feel for Green, who had OV always standing to the right hash near Green, ready to unleash that RH one-timer.
Detroit doesn't have a big RH stick at forward... so Green's gonna have to get used to a less stationary PP.

I think the money and term are great, personally. Not too long, not inflated for what Green can bring and currently market value.

He'll just have to send it over to Pulkkinen now for the Holy Slapper. He's a RHS too (If he can make the top PP that is)

great analysis pengwin but imo if he sticks on the left side he should be able to adapt quickly and not take long to adjust to life without Ovi, with Datsyuk and Zetterberg as a consolation prize

I like this deal because they only had to go 3 years. 6 million is to be expected for the best free agent available this year.

I like this deal. A littler higher AAV, but it's the trade off for not going with a longer term. I think he fits well on the second pairing with DeKeyser and on the point of the #1 PP.
