Phil Housley to coach in Jersey?
The Newark Star-Ledger is reporting that Phil Housley is at the top of GM's Ray Shero's list to become the new coach of the New Jersey Devils.
Housley is an assistant coach with the Nashville Predators at this time. The former star defenseman had 1,232 points in 1,495 NHL games during his career. Stay tuned.

Great opportunity for him. I'm curious to see how this changes the Devils philosophy - from what I understand, Housley is big on "offense."

If only he could teach one of those NJ blueliners to skate like he did. Housley was one smooth, effortless and good looking skater. Great stick handler and playmaker too.

Wow didn't see this coming but absolutely love it for the Devils if it's true.
Great time (with a franchise in transition) to take a shot at a new "head" coach imo. Give him some rope to see what he's got on a team with pretty low expectations for next year.
Plus, the strength of the Devils' future currently resides with their impressive blue line - a position Housley dominated at times during his career. And coming from coaching under Laviolette... just a great call if it happens.
