Very interesting concept by Valiquette. It makes a whole lot of sense but teams still seem to shoot from the "Red" area.

intuitively i dont think this is a surprise since the hockey cliches are 'get the goalie moving side to side' and 'the goalie cant save what he cant see'. having it quantified does make it more meaningful and would support some combination of possession and scoring chance quality/quantity as the key to scoring.
