Default MacKinnon & Drouin for Stamkos?

With MacKinnon out for the season, I received this offer today: My Mack & Drouin (+ a slight draft pick upgrade) for Stamkos.

I'm currently in 1st place, with a small lead on 2nd. I make this move without hesitation, right?

In a Keep-7, I would make this deal every day of the week. How were you going to keep Drouin anyway?

    In a keep 7 where you're a contender, yes I'd do this.

MacKinnon will probably put up Stamkos level point totals in the future but Stamkos has that goal scoring ability which only 2 or 3 guys have. Drouin isn't a keeper for you anyways. So basically you're trading an injured guy (Mack) and a nonkeeper 40 pt mercenary (Drouin) for an 80-85 pt player who can help now.

Thanks, guys. The deal is done!

There are some other components for this trade that factor into it, as we keep our players in the position we drafted them. Because Drouin was selected in the later rounds, he was certainly in consideration as a keeper for me.

Still, it's not often a player like Stamkos can be acquired. I payed a significant price, but I think it was a really good deal for both sides.

What kind of weed was the other GM smoking when he made this offer?

It's a special strain from St. Paul, Minnesota. I hear the majority of it is now grown in the Philadelphia region. I believe the kids are calling it "Paul Holmgren".

I just had to chime in here to spread a little Drouin love.

It wasn't long ago that we were all debating Drouin vs Nate Mac and although I always came out on the Mac side I view Drouin as an elite asset who very well could have been a 1st overall pick in many draft years. Do not underestimate Drouin just because he hasn't burst onto the scene, the consensus outlook was always that his transition to the NHL would take longer than Nate Mac but that when he finally 'arrived' his upside was every bit as high and I see no reason anyone should see that differently. I have Drouin penciled in as one of my top breakout candidates for next season and feel that by the end of next season Nate Mac and Drouin will both be keepers in this format

Don't get me wrong, I have the upmost confidence that Drouin will finish his career with similar point totals to MacKinnon, and I am still high on MacK despite his recent injury. Both guys will hover around the point per game level once they fully mature. However, the OP wants to maintain his spot on top of his league right now, this season, and that won't happen with MacK & Drouin this year. It will be easier to do with Stamkos.
I love both Drouin and MacK, but I love this deal for the OP to win now.

Oh for sure I think the OP makes this deal hands down, no disagreement there. I was simply commenting on the possible motivation behind the other GM's actions. I don't think it's as nuts as some might think. Obviously he doesn't make a move like that to win now but he could come out of this smelling like roses in two years
