    Default Is This Trade VETO-able?

    Hey boys

Commishing a league and a trade came up

I don't feel either way about it to be honest but it's gained some uproar

    10 team h2h one year

Top 6 make it to h2h playoffs

2nd last guy trades with 5th place guy who clinched his Pacioretty for the 5th places JVR

2nd last place guy is a die hard Habs fan, hates the Leafs and I know this doesn't translate to fantasy but worth noting
The trade came in veto'd so 4 voted against

Is this veto-able? I don't "suspect" collusion, I just think a trade happened out of a "meh" kind of attitude

Thoughts? As commish do I force it through? I think the attitude here is "well Pac is a better player.."

Thanks guys, I am a big advocate for managing your own team and making your own decisions so if I SHOULD be pushing it through I would

The question to you is, if a trade happens in your league and if someone feels that the 2 players being exchanged aren't exact value based on their own subjective player valuations, then the trade should be veto? How many trades have you ever been in where both sides are moving exact value across? Both players traded here are potentially 70 pt players, it's just that one of them plays on a crappy team. Tell those 4 guys to prove collusion or STFU.

Not vetoable if there's no collusion. A lot of times the bottom few teams are a result of poor GM's, they are going to make dumb trades year after year, it's never going to change.
I am in 2nd in a 10 team single season and traded my bishop, T.johnson, Neal and steen to a guy in 7th for perry, Benn, couture and Andersen... I've never met him and he is good friends with the guy in first. Obviously no collusion, just a dumb trade.

Does the 2nd last place guy have a chance to make the playoffs? If not, VETO because he is not making the trade to help his team but to help the other GMs team. Once a team has been eliminated from playoff contention in 1 year leagues, they should lose the ability to change their team so as to not affect the championships.

No veto. Maybe the guy in last thinks JVR is going to turn it around the last month. Who knows? But you can't stop teams out of the playoffs from making trades.

My view is that vetoes are only applicable in situations where there is a) collusion, b) tanking, or c) a knowledgeable manager is taking advantage of a manager that has less hockey knowledge than they do.

I don't think this trade fits any of these categories, although I have to admit that ditching a player just because you don't like his team would make being a fantasy manager pretty difficult.

    Thanks guys

I didn't veto, the league did a vote and it came back veto'd so it's not a "commissioner only" type of thing

I guess the question now is do I overturn it
I already ran it by a few guys in the league (both seeded and out of contention) and the consensus is that to allow it would ruin the integrity of the league considering there is a week left till playoffs

Not sure where I go from here

    -drop it and move on
-complete the trade myself as commish and deal with other gm's taking offence to the move considering league voting was set yup for a reason

I canvassed a few online sites here and this site seems to side with no veto and others have mentioned they wouldn't allow it due to the fact that an upgrade to one team affects his playoff stats where as the other team simply fire sales it's players

    Again, many thanks

A trade should never be vetoed based on this... If a GM has that little knowledge then they shouldn't even be drafting a team. Every GM has different knowledge levels and exploiting their weaknesses and lack of knowledge is what makes many trades happen. No matter how big or small the difference, one manager will always be weaker than another.
I think it's fair to say most if not all of us have less knowledge than Dobber, but that's not to say that we shouldn't be allowed to trade with him in a league.

I agree and I guess at the end of the day it boils down to this

-trade has been league voted and vetoed
-i have the power to overturn this
-league states the integrity would be affected
-guy in 2nd last place is done in a week
-guy in 5th gets a solid player for the playoffs

I'll go back to the "fire sale" analogy in that a GM out of the running would be selling parts as he'll be done soon

With this in mind, do I overturn and face a minor uproar or keep the veto and carry on

    Cheers

I get that it is lopsided, I totally understand that, but if there is no collusion then you cannot veto lopsided trades. You may as well give his money back (if this is a cash league) and tell him he isn't welcome back next year, because you're basically hijacking his team.

    Thanks

    I didn't veto

    The league decided on it

Basically what you're saying is push the trade through then?
