For what it's worth, an experienced QMJHL ref told me he had only very rarely seen talent like Mantha's and he believes he's going to be a stud in a few years.

He came from the worst/highest scoring CHL league and played virtually every second shift. His numbers were very inflated and we are seeing more of who he is right now, but we will get better looks in his second AHL year and beyond.

The Red Wings are refusing to trade him, should tell you something.

Only if you're one of those people that think the Red Wings are perfect

No, I'm one of those people who think that the Red Wings are better than most. So betting on their intuition is better than betting on my own, or yours.

I disagree. We'll leave it at that.

I'd be extremely surprised if he doesn't end up with a PPG in the AHL next year - with a call up or two. Nor would I be surprised if he clicks with Dats/Zett during those call-ups... Sometimes young kids with elite talent play better in the show when they are surrounded by players who can see the game and read plays at his level... my $0.02.

Sublime talent, slick hands and a proven finisher from any area all while being 6'5". In Junior I was only able to catch him at last years Memorial Cup but you could tell he oozed with talent and he basically single handedly led Val d'Or to get there. Playing against teams with more depth and talent you could see that Val d'Or was to dependent on their star with their power play directly focused around him and his booming shot.
He had a tendency to take too long of shifts which left his team in a vulnerable situation and would be out looking for that break which can go either really well or again put your team behind the 8 ball.
I think he will be a perennial 30 goal scorer in the NHL. It just may take another year until we see that come to fruition.
