Default I'm considering some unorthodox trades...

One-year league, details in my sig. I'm considering proposing two rather unorthodox trades to two different teams (no guarantee they'd accept them, of course) and was seeking input:

    My Tavares for his Tarasenko
    My Neal for his Nyquist

On paper, I probably lose both trades (though I'm not sure I have as much faith in Neal as I used to), but I'm looking ahead to the playoffs, which I'm almost certainly going to make. NYI and Nashville have HORRIBLE playoff schedules, while St. Louis and Detroit have very good ones (as you can see from this awesome spreadsheet by snipshow101):
    http://forums.dobbersports.com/attac...4&d=1417759660

And while my players are probably better on paper, the players I'd be getting for them seem to be close enough in quality (assuming they keep up their respective paces, that is) that I'm thinking I'd still manage OK during the regular season, then be in a much better position when the playoffs roll around.

Of course, my league is still just under six weeks away from the trade cutoff date, so maybe I'd propose this closer to then, if at all. But I wanted to see if you guys could give me your thoughts on whether my logic makes any sense here, or if I'm crazy for even considering it. (The thought of trading away Tavares DOES give me agita, I've gotta say...)

I like the Nyquist idea. He is showing that he can score with Datsyuk in the line-up, unlike last season when he only obtained points when Datsyuk was injured. Neal has been too inconsistent this season, even when playing with Ribeiro and Forsberg and I think now he is with Wilson and Fisher.
My apologies for not being able to provide insight into the Tavares-Tarasenko idea.

in one year leagues h2h leagues, i primarily drafted who are on teams with heavy playoff week schedules (11 games: CAR, CHI, COL, DET, LA, NYR, OTT). I have a few players in the 10 game range but noone below the 10 game range (except goalies)

I like the Neal for Nyquist portion... a lot. As for the Tavares for Tarasenko... nah. Here's something you might want to do... go back and look at trends of the Blues down the stretch. For the last few years it seems as if they hit a slump post-trade deadline, heading into the playoffs. It's like the lofty expectations of going the distance come into play and mess up their mojo. Check it out - I'm not 100% exact, but I've felt it over the last couple years with Pietrangelo, Shattenkirk and Tarasenko.

It's risky, but your premise makes sense. I would wait a little longer and was going to say ask for draft picks as well, but I see I stumbled into the one-year league part of the forum.

    Whoa thats me

Anyways, I really like the Neal for Nyquist trade. Tavares for Tarasenko is tricky because I see Tarasenko disgressing in the 2nd half while I see Tavares tearing it up. I would personally wait a bit before considering the Tavares/Tarasenko swap

Thanks for the quick responses, guys. I tend to agree that the Neal/Nyquist trade is a good bet, while the Tavares/Tarasenko one is a bit less so.

I've also given thought to waiting til a little closer to the deadline, then trying to trade Tavares for Pacioretty, since Montreal has an excellent playoff schedule as well...

If you want to trade Tavares for a better playoffs schedule, do it for a similarly elite guy like Kane. Tank isn't there yet.

I don't think the Nyquist owner is going to give him to you for Neal, but it's definitely worth a shot!

As others have mentioned, one vote for Neal-Nyquist trade.

I'd do this trade any of day of the week, in any league

I like the Nyquist trade. In fact, Nyquist might en do beer than Neal this year.
Tavares for Tank is a little crazy though.

Im with the others. If you can land Nyquist for Neal, I'd consider it but don't forget that Nashville has a pretty solid team themselves and could do some serious playoff damage this year.

As far as the Tavares deal, I am less excited because the NYI are also a much improved team, and deeper. I don't think I'd deal away Tavares simply because I think the Islanders have a better chance in the east compared to STL in the west.
