I'm a goalie, but when I was a youngin', I did play out and I remember cutting my stick just between my chin and my nose. Somewhere in that area at least.
Merry Christmas all,
Curious on your thoughts on the proper stick length for hockey sticks?
As I grew up the common thought was to cut stick to between nose and chin. Thoughts??
Cheers

I always wondered why the stick makers stopped putting the lie number on the sticks. They used to stamp the number for the lie at the top of the shaft. As far as the length goes, I never had to cut mine because I was over 6' and I would always have to find the longest stick. By the way, its been over a decade since I last bought a stick.
I always cut mine just at the bottom of my chin.
This is also what I did. The shorter the stick, the better stickhandling abilities is what we were taught. I don't know if that still applies. When I switched to goal I prefer a longer stick so I was more efficient at the Johnny Bower pokecheck, plus I had more opportunity to "accidentally" butt-end the opposition if they were in and around my crease.
The chin-nose theorem still applies to this day
Closer to the chin for forwards (stick handling, playmaking, shot aim), while dmen should cut closer to the nose (reach, poke-check, more whip in a slapshot).
All depends on your style of play really.
I play centre and cut mine around mouth height.

I like it to be at about chin height with my skates on. Better stick handling, and puck retrieval because I feel I'm much stronger with a shorter stick. It does makes shooting (whipping the stick/using the flex of the shaft) a bit more harder if you cut it short, depending on the flex you use.

It's not the length of the stick fellas... it's how you use it!
Merry xmas
