What If...McDavid goes to Edmonton?

So what happens if by some way or another Edmonton ends up with McDavid?

Do they continue with the clearly failing strategy of collecting as many number 1 picks as possible?

Do they trade one of the big four? If they do, who? RNH, Hall, Eberle or Yakupov?

What does it mean for McDavid?

If Edmonton has the first pick they're definitely picking. There is virtually no offer that would be worth them sending away a franchise center. None that any GM would be ballsy enough to make IMO.

I think adding McDavid gives them even more reason to trade Hall or Eberle. They'll build around McDavid, RNH and Draisaitl down the middle, and use Hall or Eberle to get goaltending or defense. They could fit all of them in, but eventually McDavid would be getting more than 10 million dollars probably, so having all those other big money stars on the payroll probably won't work.

Hopkins get traded I'd say, Draisatl would be #2C, McDavid #1... in a couple of years of course...

There's no way they should trade Hall, he's the best player they have. Eberle and Yukapov are replaceable I guess. they could also be moved for better D.

Totally agree. But I do think the thought of Hall and McDavid is entirely to enticing for them to move out a hall... Unless Hall demands out.

but in all seriousness, ill feel bad for the kid. if hes as good as we think he will be, the wingers that play well with him will stay and the rest will be moved for other pieces.

Assuming the Oilers do in fact land McDavid, I don't think they deal away any of their centers. As they have found out, it's hard enough finding a high end center and there is no reason why they can't roll out three scoring lines with all three of RNH, McDavid and Draisait down the middle. It seems to be working pretty well for Tampa Bay.

For the sake of McDavid and every hockey fan out there, we have to hope Edmonton either A) doesn't win the lottery or B) Gets rid of Lowe/MacT prior to the draft (or at least prior to harming McDavid's development). Seriously, these guys just can't develop their prospects.

It's hard to develop prospects when they are constantly being forced into the lineup due to poor managment. If MacT had gone out and landed another center or two, Draisaitl could have (and should have) gone back to Jr for another year of development.

On the bright side, they seem to be doing it right with Darnell Nurse.

The good thing with Tampa and their 3 scoring lines is they are responsible defensively, and they can move Filppula to the 1^st line, 2^nd or 3^rd as a winger or center. That would be RNH role in Edmonton, but I can’t see him as a winger, just can’t.

And they’ve sent Klefborm down like every year since he’s been drafted 20^th overall (ish, it was in that area).

I do hope they don’t land McDavid, he will turn out to change the Edmonton team and making them 500 at least, but if he went anywhere else he’d prolly develop better. Maybe not Carolina….that would be a good “face-of-the-franchise” switch tho. E.Staal fades out, McDavid fades in.

If they got McDavid they would be a better team. But they won't. the smart money is on the Flyers (thanks for your service Mr Snider), or the Coyotes.
