With those scoring categories I'd be looking at Getzlaf or Benn.
Hey fellas,
We are drafting anew in a 12-team, keep 5. We reset and draft from scratch every 3 years and I just found out I got the 6th pick in the 16 round snake draft. It is a daily start Yahoo H2H league. Roster is 2C,2RW, 2LW, 4D, 2G, 4 Bench. Cats are G, A , P, PPP, SOG, +/-, PIM, FOW, HITS, BLKS, -- W, GAA, SV%, SO.
I'm pretty sure the first 5 are going to go
Crosby
Ovechkin
Stamkos
Malkin
Giroux
Who would you guys take at 6?
With those scoring categories I'd be looking at Getzlaf or Benn.
I'd run away with Johnny Tavares and be happy he slipped to 6th. Benn might be available to you in round 2.

I would take Tavares too
I would take Tavares over both Malkin (better player, but too injury prone) and Giroux (simply not as good as JT), so i'd easily take him at 6.
gimme JT with Getzlaf a close 2nd
Not THAT hairy, honest!
JT for me!
Thanks for the input so far. I must say Getzlaf is very tempting, according to the FHG numbers he is the next best option for this setup. He also has Anaheim's schedule in his favour, with their plethora of games on "off-nights".
Everyone calling for Tavares realizes that this league redrafts every three years, right?
I'd bet on Getzlaf maintaining enough scoring over those three years to gain an edge through peripherals.
yeah I realized, I think JT gets an extra 10 points than Getz moving forward, but I also said Getz a very close 2nd which is based on peripherals...
Not THAT hairy, honest!
I didn't realize - do'h! Unique setup... my fault for not reading it thoroughly.
Makes it a lot more tougher to pick.
I still think Johnny T outpoints Getzlaf over the next 3 years. I also expect JT to produce more goals, PPP, FOWs and SOG.
Getzlaf will definitely get more hits and PIMs but those are the only cats I see him definitely edging JT in. The rest are up for grabs, though I'd bet on Getz having a better +/- over the next couple years but I wouldn't bet against the Isles for turning things around and JT posting a few positive years there.
Yeah... I guess I still take Johnny.

tuukka rask. a case could be made for tavares i suppose.
One day I will quit fantasy hockey, today is not that day.
Rask or Getzlaf for me in that order.
I don't think taking Rask is a viable option that early - he can only help in 4 of 14 categories. With anything less than a 3:2 skater:goalie category ratio, I have a hard time understanding such an early goalie selection.
Ya with our 10/4 split I refuse to take a goalie in the first couple of rounds, to be honest over the last 3 years prior to this reset there were usually only a total of 3-5 goalies kept each season.
The reset every three years definitely makes it different as it takes away some of the allure of the younger guys, but it also means older guys keep their value longer.
Related question: I ran the numbers of this league through FHG and there are a number of Dman ranked very high up the list. Their FHG rankings say they should be taken in the first round ... How early would you start drafting guys like Karlsson, Subban, Weber and Phaneuf in this setup?
