So I guess Friedman was right when he reported this yesterday, and then we all watched Leiweke deny it all day yesterday.

He got the championship parade route already planned so what else would there be left to achieve? Good time to step down.

Sad for TFC fans. Highly doubt the new CEO will be as invested in mls as Tim was.
Rumours were swirling in LeafLand about Tim grooming Shanahan to be a predecessor. But no one would have predicted it this soon. I don’t like Shanahan as the president of MLSE just because I don’t think he would know too much about Basketball and Soccer.
This is a bit of a piss off as a Leaf fan. How does someone going into this role not think about the difficulties of the position and not go in for the long haul

I read he had a 2 year non-compete agreement upon leaving AEG. I don't recall where I read it (in one of the recent articles) and it didn't expand on what that agreement entailed. It allowed him to work in Canada, obviously, with an NHL franchise, but likely limited his opportunities in the US or around the LA area. He will likely be pursuing something in the US or close to the LA area once he leaves.
You would think MLSE brass knew of this prior to hiring him, and may even have known he would leave after the 2 years was up, and the fact that he is staying on until June 30, 2015 makes me think this was all the plan. That being the case, why bring him in for only 2 years and then subject yourselves to the transition all over again?
I can’t remember where I read it but I did read the grooming of Shanahan. Prolly coupled with the fact Leiwike had that 2 yr agreement thing that was brought up byKofax. But Raptors wouldn’t have been in the playoffs without their GM, and Tim brought him in. So there’s the bright spot in all this. I’m not sure how much convincing Tim had to do on Shanny but there’s another. But only 2 yrs…. Now they have to go and find a President all over again, and what happens if he’s against the Raptors, Leafs and TFC’s GMs?

wonder if theres any chance he's leaving mlse for the islanders
I have heard that the Rogers Brass that Leiweke reports too are not easy to work with.
Shanahan doesn't have the business smarts to run such a company as MLSE, as Vitun-Tyhma stated. They will bring in a CEO from outside the company to run the business. Let the sports minded people runs the sports teams, and the business minded people run the over all business.

There's 5 people in line right now to take over. By the sounds of things, Tim is gone June 30th 2015 or when a replacement is found. So it could be even sooner than June

The report states:
"He will stay in the position until June 30, 2015 or until a new CEO is found"
The bolded part is quite key in my mind. Nothing worse than a lame-duck CEO/Coach/Politician. Once an end date is put on their leaving it's hard for them to commit to any long-term planning or get the support of those above them. I would be surprised if he isn't replaced before June 30, 2015.
One early piece of speculation I heard was that Steve Ballmer, new owner of the LA Clippers, was interested in bringing him to run the Clippers. He may have a non-compete with AEG but it wouldn't surprise me to see him with the Clippers if he wants to be back in LA.
