    Default Silfverberg vs. Granlund

    Hey guys,

    In the points-only league in my sig, which Rookie would you rather keep and why?

    Granlund (age 21) - 8 pts in 27 games.
    Silfverberg (age 23) - 19 pts in 48 games.

    A Rookie is 23 years or younger and never made more than 60 points in any single season.

    Thanks.

    I might be alone here but I'm going with Silfverberg.

    Reason #1 - Seemed to adapt to the NA game easier than Granlund. Granted he was given lots of opportunities because of the injuries in Ottawa but still made the most of those chances. Granlund has the vision and higher upside for sure but Silfverberg could be the best sniper/finisher that Spezza has had since Heatley was Heatley. Minny is very deep and has the luxury off letting Granlund develop further in the AHL. Silfverberg is here to stay.

    Reason #2 - With Stamkos, Couture and Stepan you're already very deep at C. A great RW can be tough to come by and your wing positions are probably the only weak(ish) link on your current roster.

    That said, - I would try to trade Granlund if I were you. You should be able to receive a respectable return of a player who can help you "win now".

    I would choose Silvferberg, especially if your league counts shots.

    If this is a straight points format, I give the slight edge to Granlund. If there is a bonus for shots or goals, the scales tip in the favor of Silfverberg. Both will be close though.

    Well your not alone robmyatt because I am going with Silfverberg aswell.. I think with the guys you already have at center, you definitely could benefit more by going with the winger..

    Granlund will get better at the NHL level, you have to remember he is only 21 and has some growing up to do.. But Silfverberg is 23 and ready to contribute now for the Senators..

    Tough call as both are equals IMO. Howver given that Silfverberg is a winger and Granlund is a C (which you are deep at already) I go with Silfverberg on this one.

    Correct me if I'm wrong (I don't play keepers) but if you keep Silfverberg will that force your hand in terms of keepers once he turns 24?

    Ya that is my understanding as well. I suggest keeping Granlund for the next 2 years and seeing how he develops, rather than keeping Silfverberg and having to protect him as one of your 6 keepers next year.

    What date do you use to determine the age eligibility? I ask because Silfverberg is 22 now (Born Oct 13, 1990) and Granlund 21 (Born Feb 26, 1992) so depending on what date you use as the cut-off you could get two more seasons out of Granlund compared to one out of Silfverberg.

    We take the year of our next draft (2013) and remove the year of birth.

    Granlund = 2013 - 1992 = 21
    Silfverberg = 2013 - 1990 = 23

    We find that easier to keep track of rookies (and it's easier for our commish also.)

    I would only be keeping one of these guys. The other one would either have to be traded or dropped.

    Then I would keep Granlund, those extra two years of rookie status will give you a much better idea of what you have before you have to decide whether to keep him, drop him or trade him.
