The gritty 23-year-old power forward agreed to terms on a four-year deal with the Islanders worth $4 million, a source confirmed to ESPNNewYork.com.
Martin, a restricted free agent who led the team and set a single-season NHL record with 374 hits this past season, inked a deal less than an hour before the league-imposed deadline at midnight, when the current collective bargaining agreement expires.

With regards to this signing in particular I think it's a great contract. $1M a season for what Matt Martin can bring is pretty solid in my books.

1 mil/per is a great number for a player like Martin. Set a record for hits last year, and he's a very clean player considering his playing style. Like daoust mentioned, I think he's got a little more offense in him, as well....once that comes around he'll be a great own for fantasy leagues.

I think Garth Snow's recent body of work has been fantastic. He has managed to get a bunch of guys to sign long-term deals for very reasonable cap hits...getting players to buy in to the team (i.e. Nabokov). Pretty impressed tbh.
That Tavares contract is looking amazing after Kane, Seguin, and Hall recently signed theirs.
