Mathematical Model based on H2H league with 6 categories: G, A, +/-, PIM, PPP, SOG
Scores are based on actual2011-2012 NHL Statistics.
Forwards are given a score (10/10 = typical maximum**) in each category.
Scoring:
*G. 50G = 10pts. 25G = 5pts. 0G = 0pts. [AVG of Top 120 Fs = 25G... in 10-11 it was 24G.]
*A. 70A = 10pts. 35A = 5pts. 0A = 0pts. [AVG of Top 120 Fs = 34A... in 10-11 it was 33A.]
*+/-. +30 = 10pts. EVEN = 5pts. -30 = 0pts. [AVG of Top 120 Fs = +6... in 10-11 it was +6]
*PIM. 120PIM = 10pts. 60PIM = 5pts. 0PIM = 0pts. [AVG of Top 120 Fs = 55 PIM... in 10-11 it was 55 PIM]
*PPP. 40PPP = 10pts. 20PPP = 5pts. 0PPP = 0pts. [AVG of Top 120 Fs = 16 PPP... in 10-11 it was 17 PPP]
*SOG. 400SOG = 10pts. 200SOG = 5pts. 0 = 0pts. [AVG of Top 120 Fs = 203 SOG... in 10-11 it was 200 SOG]
Notes:
In most categories, max score = 10, min score = 0.
In SOG, the max scored = 8.5 (for Malkin's 339 SOG)
In PIM, the max score = 19.6 (for Derek Dorsett's 235PIM)**.
Several players were banged up last year, so here's where they would have finished if they had played a FULL 82games at pace with what they actually played.
11.82pts (1st) Crosby, Sidney (played only 22 games)
6.91pts (7th) MacDonald, Andy (played only 25 games)
6.68pts (9th) Backstrom, Nicklas (played only 43 games)
6.61pts (11th) Steen, Alex (played only 43 games)
6.44pts (13th) Sedin, Daniel (played only 72 games)
6.39pts (14th) Toews, Jonathan (played only 59 games)
6.25pts (15th) Lupul, Joffrey (played only 66 games)
6.06pts (18th) Hall, Taylor (played only 61 games)
6.01pts (19th) Havlat, Martin (played only 39 games)
5.73pts (27th) Horton, Nathan (played only 46 games)
5.70pts (30th) Koivu, Mikko (played only 55 games)
5.53pts (40th) Perron, David (played only 57 games)
5.19pts (69th) Nugent-Hopkins, Ryan (played only 61 games)
5.18pts (72nd) Skinner, Jeff (played only 64 games)
My past experience has shown that my rankings have been very close to Yahoo! ranks... though Yahoo! is closed and I really wished I would have compared before they closed.
Hope you enjoy.

1. Open the attached PDF above.
2. Pick 9 forwards. The ranks of your 9 forwards MUST add to OVER 675pts.
(ex. Malkin = 1, Colin Greening = 145)
3. Post your players.
4. Total up your teams points each category. (You don't have to do this, but I'd appreciate it.)
Total G:
Total A:
Total +-:
Total PIM:
Total PPP:
Total SOG:
*********************
Using the points for each player (example, for James Neal , use G=8.0, A=5.9, +-=6.0, PIM=7.3, PPP=7.5, SOG=8.2. Do this for all 9 players, write them down, total them up.)
***If this is too much math, I'll do it for you... just let me know***
I'll compile a ROTO standings and you can see how well you understand drafting by category value. Players values are based on LAST YEAR's ACTUAL STATS.
A neat exercise.
Discussion: This is actually a pretty typical draft for me.
Heavy on G, +/-, PIM. Weak in A & PPP. Average in SOG.
It's something I have to work on with my own drafts.
(5hole, I'll total yours separately and post above)
