My wife is a big isles fan and she is quite keen on this. Although I believe she simply wants blood for Tavares and poaching Willie from the Leafs would coincide with her "I want to watch Toronto burn" ideal...she's a feisty one
Not so Wild Bill has yet to sign ... I would love to see a team offer - sheet him. More specifically the Islanders who have roughly 9 million + change in cap space offer him 8 million X 5 years and surrender the 1st, 2nd, 3rd. I read somewhere if he signs an offer sheet of 5 or more years that it's 2 first round picks if its in the $6,088,981 to $8,118,641 range but I'm not 100% sure on this. Barzal + Bill combo would be insane. I made the mistake of picking William in all my box pools this year and am a tad worried William and the Leafs don't blink and this drags on for awhile.
Contract watch 2018 #Nylander
If I had to guess his AAV I would say it will end up being $6,750,000 .... as for number of years ... who knows ... anywhere from 5-8.

He will cave. He has no leverage here.
$6.25M
From everything I've heard on the radio or have read, it seems to be that Nylander wants $7M on a long-term deal but the Leafs aren't budging from the low $6M mark (so probably $6.1-$6.4). Nylander has no leverage here so eventually he will cave and sign what Dubas is presenting. I'd expect Dubas to hold his ground as well and not offer a bridge deal. Toronto also has an easy schedule to start the season so they shouldn't have any trouble scoring goals which will work against Nylander's case.

I'm looking forward to seeing if these guys actually take pay cuts.. Is $12 million a year a pay cut for Matthews?? Is $8 million a year a pay cut for Marner??
Schiefele took a pay cut and he actually admitted that he did it for the team.. It will just be interesting to see what these guys sign for!!

The only way I see any of them taking pay cuts is on short term deals.

Colorado could offer sheet easily, they have two firsts, a second, and two thirds as well as cap and roster space. Philly could do it too. Doesn’t make sense for other unless they think they can go into the playoffs. Offer 8M and put the screws to the Leafs!
apparently tavares spoke to both marner and matthews during the negotiating window and came away convinced they'll both be around for his entire 7 year deal .

None of them should take pay cuts. I find it hilarious that fans actually think the players shouldn't treat it like a business yet it's fine for GMs and owners to aleays do just that. These guys have dedicated their lives to specializing in one thing.
This could be the last hockey contract Nylander signs (due to any number of potential problems in the future that no one can forsee). He should absolutely treat it that way.
I laugh out loud everytime I hear someone say a player should take less.

Love Leafs fans desperately clinging to the notion that a Swede and an American are going to take “hometown” discounts for a team they’ve played 3 years for.
