Need more info about your league, mainly the scoring system. It matters a lot here.
Makar had pretty amazing playoffs and Provorov had a down year. I've been offered Makar for my Provorov in a fantasy league.
Getting Makar means a probably better draft position. Keeping Provorov is safer due to the sample size and not having to deal with Barrie in front of him, also the better defensive dman.
Which would you take going forward?
Here's my defense for the future:
Dahlin Provorov
Theodore Vlasic
Montour Jokiharju
Guhle

What are your categories, are there any other relevant league details like a cap, how does this affect draft position (you mention Makar giving you a better one?), and what does the rest of your team look like (F and G)?
I could see an argument made for either.

It's a sim league based on real life, WSH. Makar can't play for one more year so he won't be helping my team for next season which means I should tank more easily.
Forwards and goaltenders don't matter, it's 1 for 1 dman vs dman.
I think Provorov will be more useful to you in a sim league since it kind of serves as a multi-cat league although different sims value different things more. It's a classic buy low / sell high case.

In a sim league, I think Provorov might be the smarter keep but in time, I can see Makar's offense making him nice to own as well. Provorov is the better all around Dman though.

I agree that Provorov is the better asset. If you can get a solid asset on top of Makar for your Provorov, I might consider it.
No cap?

Cap is not a problem. The guy actually pulled the offer so I'll be keeping Provorov! Thanks for the replies!
