Re: NFL Offseason Discussion
Points on NEP decisions I heard throughout yesterday.
The new NFL has 5DBs on the field typically because the offenses are going more spread offenses with smaller WR. NEP did this when they got Moss. The NFL at the time was RB ground and pound. LB and heavy front 7s. NEP went, ok, we'll spread it out and put speedy WR against your LB. The NFL caught up and are now running that offense, but more importantly defending that offense.
NEP just signed 2 TE who are like 6'3" 230lbs to lineup against 5'11" 190-200lb DBs. They signed the TOP blocked WR in Bourne. They signed Agholor who can push DBs/Safeties back, which opens up the middle a bit more. They are apparently in (or have been in on) Fournette and Carson. They might just be the highest screen game team in the NFL too.
NEP are reinventing their offense to go against the opponents smaller defenses. How is a defense built to defend Buffalo's speedy offense going to defend NEP big, ground and pound defense? That's the possible mentality. Quickest way to improve an offense? Go against whatever the defenses are built for. No team will sign guys to defend 1 teams offensive strategy. They have 14-15 other games to play.
