I wonder if they swing for the fences with Lapierre here? Its a high risk/high reward play that I think is a good spot to go given the current prospect pool they have and where they are picking.

I don't think they will, but that's just me.

MB & Timmins are finally building a solid cupboard full of prospects after years of "swinging"

Another Leblanc, Scherbak, or McCarron could derail all that good momentum.

Which is why they should trade the pick.

Scherbak wasn't really a swing pick, at that point. Leblanc I remember was being touted in that area. McCarron was definitely a swing and miss.

I think the difference is they have have a nice prospect pool that gives you the ability to do it this year. A lot of scouting reports indicate he was a top-10 before the injury plagued 2019-20 season. It also depends on who is available around that area. I would prefer they take a chance on Lapierre than select someone like Guhle or Schneider at that pick.

Gerry Johannson, agent for Brendan Gallagher, says contract talks have broken off with the Habs.
Although Gallagher still has a another year on his deal so time for this to iron itself out. But talks have obviously not gone great so far.
Not sure what to think here. Another year but I would have figured this would be a love fest.

I'm curious what number Gallagher is throwing out there from his side. Curious how everything with Gallagher and Tatar will play out.

This is by far the hardest Bergevin has tried to improve the team since he took over. Not sure if it's going to work but at least he is trying.

That Gallagher deal screams regret in the not-too-distant future. Good player for sure, contract just seems a little pricey.

Given the contracts on the team, it seems right. There was no way MB could justify a small salary closer to Drouin given that he out produced Drouin and is big leadership presence on the team.

The unfortunate alternatives would have been to let him walk or trade him and then complain that the return was insignificant.

I fear Anderson's contract more, mostly because of his injuries and the fact that it is a gamble.

Gallagher's extension is very important to the organization's aspirations and I have no problem with the AAV when you compare it to other contracts. When it's all said and done, maybe the last year or two are anchors...

But in the meantime, you know exactly what you get with Gallagher: leadership, goal-scoring and grade-A effort. He's the Habs heart and soul. You need that to succeed in the playoffs and Bergevin is pushing his chips in the middle. This signature also sets the tone for all the other players needing a contract in the future. Apart from Suzuki, I think the others will HAVE to settle for less money than Gallagher down the road.

Look at what happened in Toronto... not saying that AM, Marner and Tavares don't deserve their money because they're elite players. But their contracts really have been affecting the Leafs overall complexion.

I don't see the same level of cap problems / roster juggling in Montreal, not for a while. Will it translate into success or deep playoffs runs? We'll see but Bergevin is impressing me with how he's building the team this off-season.

I think BG Even strength goals/game pushes him even higher. I saw a list where he was like 7th for some even strength goals list but can't think of the stat adjuster that would put him higher up than the list "tweetdrivr" provided.
