If they're going to have 10 rookies on the roster like their owner said they will, they will have trouble reaching the floor. But yes, there are tricks they can do to get there. They have to keep Tkachuk on the roster because his $3.425M AAV helps them reach the floor. A guy like Batherson doesn't help much with his $773k AAV.

LTIR guys count towards the cap floor. Like I said they won't have any trouble getting there.

After the season starts, other teams have no reason to trade their LTIR guys.

    Fuel to the fire:

Tierney and DeMelo were the cheapest option on San Jose at both the forward and defence position when combined with control of their contract.

This was not a deal that was made with the intention of helping the team. Nothing to do with talent, character or anything like that. Money and accounting. That?s it.

Just thinking about the fact that the West now has at least 3 extreme powerhouse teams with SJ, Nashville, and Winnipeg. Add Vegas to the mix and we can expect quite a battle next spring.

Conversely, in the East you've got probably the 3 most dreadful teams with Montreal, Ottawa, and Carolina.

Carolina could easily finish at the bottom if their goaltending is shit again.

Sure throw Detroit in the mix too. I was just thinking of bad teams off the top of my head and they definitely fit the bill.

If the worst team in the West is the Oilers again, then that definitely shows you the disparity between the two Conferences at this point.

Carolina is one of those teams that wouldn’t surprise me if they finished with 70 points or 110 points. Especially with what Vegas managed to do last year, a bunch of younger, hungry players could do some damage if they can get at least league average goaltending

Agree, and now with a legit no 1 dman, backed up by solid top 4 guys like Slavin and Pesce, all it will take is even average goaltending and they have a shot at the playoffs.

LOL, sort of like judging an actual trade versus all of those hypothetical offers we think they should have got, but have no way of knowing if they actually got? That kind of hindsight analysis? Maybe, just maybe, this was the best offer they got. But no, that offer I dreamed up one night was much better, they're idiots for not taking that.

If SJ's offer was the best they could get (and I don't believe it was for a second), they would have been better off just keeping Karlsson and riding the year out with him. Instead, they have managed to alienate the majority of their fan base. Good luck settling tickets now. I can't tell you how many former die-hard Sens fans are done with this team as long as Melnyk remains the owner...

Of course at this point everything is technically "hindsight" analysis; however, what was actually being discussed was the difference in time between when the trade was made and years down the road. That is the type of hindsight analysis which people were discussing. It seems you misunderstood.

If you really believe this is the best offer they received for Erik Karlsson, I'd like some of what you're smoking.

They will need the coaching too. Gallant effect is not to be underrated.
