Did he take a slapper in the head last season? Seriously, what happened to this guy?

Does this guy have an agent? If so, he doesn't have a very good one.

His political beliefs and views are also absurd.

"Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle."

It is pretty crazy how he went from one of the most revered and respected guys in the league only two years (hell I even liked him when he beat the Canucks for the SC)...to what he is now.

And the thing is that it was ALL his own doing. Both getting up to the top AND going down the crapper with his antics.

I liked this guy. Talk about letting it go to your head.

Although I disagree with his opinion on this (btw in his defence, being anti-gay marriage is not the same as being homophobic), I think it's funny how people in hockey turn against anyone out of the norm like Thomas having a minority political view. It's not like his political views are that extreme, millions of Americans probably have the same. Or people getting upset or overreacting over Pat Kane's Wisconsin summer or the one time Radulov/AKostitsyn were slightly late because of a late dinner.

Don't agree with Thomas' views and wish he didn't hold them but he could play for my hockey team any day. The only difference between Thomas and so many other players is that he is open about the wacky stuff he believes in.

You have a guy like Crosby who entrusts his entire career and health to an utter whacko of a neck-cracker nutbar "doctor" (not), and then how many hockey players wear powerband bracelets and crap. They are athletes and not paid to be critical thinkers.

Expecting them to do so is to set yourself up to be let down.

This entire situation is different than a 23 year old having a little too much fun or a couple of teammates staying out past curfew.

Yes, it is true that all that Tim Thomas has done is promote his stance on the government, politics in general, and social movements. And yea, he is entitled to his opinion, no matter how politically incorrect or bigoted it is. However, what is so mind-boggling about this entire ordeal is that he's a hockey player. He's using his power as a beloved (formerly beloved) goaltender to spread his thoughts on gay marriage? What the hell is that? If you label yourself as a politician or a part of a corporation making stances tend to happen. But the guy plays with a rubber puck on ice. I as a fan don't want to hear him lash out against Obama or support a freakin' chicken sandwich company. I want to see him make unbelievable saves, lose to the Leafs, and give time to the media when they ask for it. What Thomas has done by taking a year off, showing his political views (and may I add that he's the only NHL player to take his stance on anything pertaining this to this degree) and shamelessly promoting an ipod app in his press release has caused a huge distraction from the game of hockey and made himself the centre of attention.

Also, anti-gay marriage might not technically be homophobia, but I don't see much of a difference. Not letting gay people marry is the same as labelling them inferior to the average human being- not giving them the rights they're entitled to as free citizens. That's pretty homophobic if you ask me.
