1) Dallas would match that.
2) I'm 90% certain there will not be an offer sheet.
3) All 30 teams have a gap in their lineup for Jamie Benn.
Jamie Benn is listed as a C/LW. He is a dynamic player who can produce with pretty much anyone you put with him. He is also an RFA who has not been signed.
Edmonton has a gap at 2nd line LW. If Edmonton were to acquire Benn, they could simply slot him in there, or keep him at centre where he played last year and move Gagner out in a package for an impact defenseman. While Tambellini has not sent out any offer sheets that we know of since taking over from Lowe, he was active with Weber (per Weber's agent).
Let's say Tambo sends a 7 yr, $6.6 million offer sheet to Benn, giving up a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd rounder in compensation. Does Dallas match given their ownership situation? Does it hurt Edmonton's development too much? Would adding Benn give Edmonton the top 6 it needs to compete? Will it allow them to part with assets to bolster their D?
Just some thoughts I had this morning, feel free to poke holes.

What ownership situation? That's been resolved a while ago and they have an owner with deep pockets and passion for hockey. There is no reasonable offer sheet that would get Benn out of Dallas.

You don't mess with Texas. Period.
Ah, I thought I remembered hearing something about that. I may have confused Dallas for one of the other teams that doesn't want to throw a lot of money around.
Pity, I could have used more drama in this offseason, since I have a bad feeling about the season itself starting on time.

Do the Oiler's want to pay $6+ M a season for a 2C? RNH is the #1C of the future. Putting Benn on the wing just makes things ridulously crowded in that top 6 particularly if Nail can move to the LW.
I really don't want to see Nail moved to LW. He has a cannon of a one-timer on the right side, why would one take that away from him? There really isn't a great solution for Edmonton when it comes to filling that 2LW slot at this point, but putting Benn there would give them two very strong lines as well as a bit of size.
As for $6M for a 2C, Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay seem to be making it work reasonably well.

Benn would not sign it.
Pit and TB are exceptional circumstances. Crosby and Malking are top 3 players in the league, they have to be paid top dollar. Stamkos will get his money no matter what but Lecavalier is simply overpaid right now and has an untradeable contract.
Unless you had Crosby and Malkin up the middle, no other team in the league would want to tie up over $15M for their 1C and 2C.
Datsuyk 6.7M, Zetterberg 6M (higher in salary) come pretty close.
Staal 8.25M Staal 6M also are almost at 15M.
Thorton 7M Marleau 6.9M are right up there.
So I don't think 15M is unrealistic, especially with the rate the salary cap has increased. Most of these contracts were signed before.
If a team has two all-star centers with today's caphit, I can easily see them tying up 15M betweent he two of them.

Take the source with a grain of salt. He says it is a Canadian team. Calgary makes sense.
Eklund is full of shit, as usual.
If he posts it, it basically guarantees that its not going to happen. Given that, I'll predict that Benn is re-signed within a week.
