Who can we compare this kid to in the NHL today?? Is he going to surprise somewhat like Phaneuf?? Or can we expect him to be a shut-down D-man??

What kind of numbers do you see coming out of Alzner in the next few years..

IMO he will be a shut down guy.

Scott Stevens type of player is what comes to mind.

he is a great skater but will be more of a defensive type. Think of Eric Brewer but better. Fast, great passer, but doesn\'t put up a lot of points.

scott stevens is not a bad comparison. he moves the puck decently, so 35 points will be a good expectation for him. and after watching the loss to the flyers, they badly need a legitimate shutdown dman.

But not Scott Stevens points in his early days.
Alzner will be a 30-35 pt guy.
Green is there to lead the offense.

I thought he was expected to be where he\'s at today. At least from his development around draft time going forward.

Sutter and Coburn both drafted ahead of him.

Phaneuf is a surprise cause he has developed so early and spoiled fantasy owners hoping for the same prodcution at an early age from the likes of EJ, JJ, letang, ect.

I just want to second this. In my mind they could be the best 1-2 punch in the league in about 3-4 years. Fantastic skating offence combined with physical defensive play. Great news in Caps land.

I think the blues are going to have the best one two punch in the nhl or even the Kings... Blues will pick up another franchise Dman in this draft and the same with the kings...
