Just caught this on TSN and didn't see it up here yet [perhaps b/c it's not that important].
Anyway, Gaustad signs a 4-year deal paying him 3.25 million per year.

I don't disagree, but seriously...Gaustad is 30 years old and his career high in points is 36. Everybody sings his defensive praises, but he was a -1 in 10 playoff games for NAS [undoubtedly against solid opposition so I'm not trying to read too much into this stat] and most importantly...he averaged 11:35 in 10 playoff games.Originally Posted by hockeymanG23

This is what a good solid checking 3rd line centre should earn. Nashville has so much capspace that this is a drop in the bucket. It's far from the biggest news they should be making at this time of year but it's something.
As important as winning is in the playoffs, for the majority of teams it's more important to just get there and Gaustad will help with that a lot in the regular season.

They have cap space and that's fine but I consider it an overpayment because it's 4 yrs long. Also I don't think he took a discount, I can't see him getting any more than this on the open market. The deal that someone like Nielsen took was a discount, not this.
Good for Nashville. They paid a hefty price for him at the trade deadline so I'm glad they could keep him in their team for longer. Great guy to have on the bottom-6.

Gaustad isn't just a third liner. He's great in the room, a real leader, stands up for his teammates (ask Ryan Miller), he's great in the faceoff circle and he can step it up and fill in on the second line if needed. I think 3.25/year is great value for a guy like him.
