Default [Signing] Hal Gill re-signs with the Predators

2 years, cap hit $2 million.

Solid signing and gives them some veteran presence at D. He'll be a good mentor for Josi, Ellis and Blum.

Every time Hal Gill breaks his stick, the trainers have to cut a tree behind the arena.

Agreee, evironmentalists will not be happy with this signing, but their angry voices are sure to be drowned out by celebrating Pekka Rinne owners.

We still miss him in Montreal! No other player can pull of that octopus move during PK's... very unorthodox but also very effective!

I would rather have Gill than Wideman any day (at equal cap hits)... good signing.

There's a common misconception that Gill's a far better defensive player than Wideman,

but the fact of that matter is that in certain situations, Wideman is almost as effective in his own zone as Gill.

...of course the discrepency in their games becomes a little more apparent once you allow Hal Gill to have either a pair of skates or a stick.

Gill is fine when he is in position, but he's awful in transition (ie he's too damn slow to keep up). He gets beat to the outside all the time and his only way around that is to already be close to the net so that there is no space to go around.

hal gill is not a very good defensive player...
he is slow and is a terrible puck mover.
    more like a giant pylon...
helps on the penalty kill, though.

Hal Gill's success comes from playing the role thats assigned to him(allowing him to use his strengths) and thus in a system where everyone plays there role(like nashville) his deficencies do not show up as much. Put him on the leafs or another weaker team and boom.
