There's a common misconception that Gill's a far better defensive player than Wideman,
but the fact of that matter is that in certain situations, Wideman is almost as effective in his own zone as Gill.
...of course the discrepency in their games becomes a little more apparent once you allow Hal Gill to have either a pair of skates or a stick.

Gill is fine when he is in position, but he's awful in transition (ie he's too damn slow to keep up). He gets beat to the outside all the time and his only way around that is to already be close to the net so that there is no space to go around.There's a common misconception that Gill's a far better defensive player than Wideman,

Hal Gill's success comes from playing the role thats assigned to him(allowing him to use his strengths) and thus in a system where everyone plays there role(like nashville) his deficencies do not show up as much. Put him on the leafs or another weaker team and boom.
