Right now, I'd lean toward Gerrit Cole. The former UCLA Bruin's fastball sits at 94-98 MPH and occasionally reaches triple-digits. The 21-year-old righthander also has an excellent power slider and a changeup. The combination of his pedigree, stuff and college experience make Cole one of the most big league-ready guys who were taken in the 2011 Draft, as well as a player who has as much upside as anyone.
The vast majority of these prospects have a lot of development yet ahead of them, so it is really hard to project who is going to be capable of what if/when they get to the big leagues. That being said, I like Cole as much as anyone in the draft, and it is no surprise to me that the Pirates selected him first overall.
