Default Could the Flyers land Nash?

I know, I know, I know... The Flyers. But after McKenzie and Dreger both mentioned that they were in the hunt for his services, I started crunching numbers to figure things out.

I don't pretend to understand how GMs work outside of my fantasy pool, but I put together a package I think would work to land Nash.

We'd send: Schenn, Voracek, Bobrovsky and a 1st
    We'd get: Nash and Sandford

I then calculated this depth chart for next year, assuming Pronger would be on LTIR, that we'd sign Suter and that we'd promote some of our youth (dreamers can dream, right?)

    FORWARDS
    James Van Riemsdyk ($4.250m) / Claude Giroux ($3.750m) / Rick Nash ($7.800m)
    Wayne Simmonds ($1.750m) / Daniel Briere ($6.500m) / Scott Hartnell ($4.200m)
    Maxime Talbot ($1.750m) / Sean Couturier ($1.375m) / Matt Read ($0.900m)
    Tom Sestito ($0.550m) / Eric Wellwood ($0.580m) / Zac Rinaldo ($0.544m)

    DEFENSEMEN
    Ryan Suter ($6.300m) / Kimmo Timonen ($6.333m)
    Braydon Coburn ($4.500m) / Andrej Meszaros ($4.000m)
    Erik Gustafsson ($0.900m) / Marc-Andre Bourdon ($0.875m)

    GOALTENDERS
    Ilya Bryzgalov ($5.666m) / Curtis Sanford ($1.200m)

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $63,724,444; BONUSES: $450,000
    CAP SPACE (20-man roster): $575,556

Now, I know this is far fetched, but what are your thoughts? If the stars aligned and we COULD pull this off, what are the pros and cons?

    Cons: Flyers don't need him.

Seriously, their core right now is probably best left intact other than dealing pieces for a cornerstone d-man to replace Pronger.

Trading Nash for Vorecek would be like PR suicide no matter what else they get back.

From Philly's perspective - why bother? They have good leadership and a good room now. Why muck it up? What does Nash bring that JVR doesn't if leadership is stripped from the equation?

The Flyers NEED defense...but yes they can (and might) land Nash.

I agree. Our top priority should be defense, but with the plan I proposed it allows to sign Suter at a 6.3 cap hit if he goes to open market. That means there will be room if we make a similar move and we will be able to sign a D man.

Honestly... I'd be pissed if Homer made that deal. We got a good thing going and there is no reason to be impatient. We defintely do need to add the best defenceman we can. Other than that, the team is looking good.

Would you be happy with Luke Schenn for JVR? Cause I'm not.

I would not be even with JVRs issues right now. Schenn has really taken a few steps back over the past two seasons. I know that defensemen take a long time to blossom, and multiply that for defensive defensemen; but if Schenn was as good as the Leafs had expected and hoped for, I don't think he'd be on the block at all.

I don't see any reason for them to acquire Nash. Would be fun to do in NHL 12 but in real life it doesn't make sense.

I'd rather punch myself in the nuts than trade JVR for Schenn.

According to Burke, Schenn is not on the block.
