Re the above the KHL wasnt founded until 2008, both those guys left for NA well before that (Malkin in 2006 and Semin in 2003) when the rinks in Russia were falling apart and sponsorship and money were big issues. The RSL before that did not pay players what the KHL does now thanks to millions from oil revenue and natural resources and political backing from Putin and Medvedev so really they are completely different scenarios.
Also keep in mind Malkin essentially defected and broke his contract to come over.
