Before the season I'm sure you would have been hard pressed to find anyone who would have predicted that the Panthers Jason Garrison would be leading all defenseman in goals. Having scored just seven times in his entire career, it would have been hard to imagine that he would have scored eight times already this season. With two of his goals coming as game winners, and four points on the power play, Garrison is now nearly 60% owned. Florida is currently leading the Southeast division and it has a lot to do with unexpected outstanding early season performances.

Worth a Look

Eric Nystrom LW DAL

Nystrom is an interesting one because the word "scorer" doesn't really come to mind when you think of him. His best offensive output was in 2009-10 with the Flames where he had 11 goals. He already has eight in just 19 games with Stars and is currently only 1% owned. Nystrom has been streaky so far as he has had runs of five goals in six games, and most recently five points in his last five games. With Stars forwards Brenden Morrow, Adam Burish, and Vernon Fiddler banged up, Nystrom could be an attractive short-term option.

Kyle Wellwood C WPG

Wellwood is on pace to have a career year in most offensive categories. He has notched 17 points in 23 games this season, and has tallied seven points in his last six games. The skillful center is a plus player and has also registered five power play points, yet is just 7% owned. The Jets are much improved as they have won four of their last six, so look for Wellwood to keep it up.

Chris Kelly C BOS

The Bruins turnaround has had a lot to do with the play of Kelly. His 16 points are tied for third on the team, his 9 goals are second to Tyler Seguin, and he is second on Boston with a plus-15 rating. He has tallied nine points in his last eight games and two of his goals this season are of the shorthanded variety. Still just 15% owned.

Valteri Filppula C DET

Despite being second on the Wings in scoring, Filppula is just 34% owned. Of his 19 points, seven of those have come on the power play, and he is sporting a plus-8 rating. So far this season he has averaged nearly two shots and one hit per game, and over his last four games he has notched four goals and five points.

Drop 'EM

Roman Hamrlik D WAS

The Capitals struggles have been hurting Hamrlik as well. He is off to a disastrous start to the year by registering just a single point, and not suprisingly not a single power play point. He has a minus-10 rating, good for worst on Washington, and isn't even averaging a hit per game.

Derick Brassard C CLB

Brassard has been quite the dissapointment this year coming off of a 47 point campaign. He has only tallied four points so far and is a minus-11. Earlier this month he spent five of six games in the press box as a healthy scratch.
