Duchene... HELP (REP)
In a 12 team keeper league.
I'm currently in 12th place 159 points back. I've become a bottom feeder on purpose. I want to finish last and have the best shot at Yakupov. (last place has an approximately 20% chance of winning the lottery)
The 11th place team who is 125 points back has offered me his 1st round pick next fall and Ellis for my Duchene.
The 29 point lead I have will be gone in no time now that I have Crosby back and Markov has been cleared for contact.
Getting my hands on his pick would pretty much double my chances at getting Yakupov to almost 40%. And if I win and get Yakupov I'd also be sitting on the next pick.... Mikhail Grigorenko!
If I do the deal I "could" get them both and I'm guaranteed to get one of them.
What should I do?

I think you have to get a better return then that to make it ethical. Tanking is one thing, but giving away elite players for less then value to lose is not right imo...

Making things more difficult, I'm talking to another team about Ovetchkin. He's mulling over Karlsson, Duchene and my 1st for Ovetchkin and Pietrangelo.
If I deal Duchene the Ovy deal is dead for sure.

20% increased chance to get Yakupov in exchange for Duchene?
Not worth it. I know everything is hailing Yakupov as the second coming, but as we all know hockey is unpredictable (I think Yaks sustained a head injury recently) and what we DO KNOW is that Duchene will be a superstar in this league. Definitely not worth it.
I would try to hammer out a deal with the Ovie owner. Tell him you have another deal cooking and that you have to make a decision by early next week. That will quickly tell you whether he's for real.

I personally is not one for tanking on purpose.
Now that you have Crosby back, you should aim on getting back to the competitive side of things. Wheel and deal to make your team better. I think its just a mentality thing, b/c you're at the bottom (right now)...the inclination is to sink at the very bottom to find the greatest treasure ..Yakupov? But at what price..Duchene? Not for me!
Sink or Swim..I say swim! Crosby is back. Doughty will pick it up
I like your 2nd trade partner..sell your 1st rounder for OV. Take that seriously. Its only november..lots of hockey left!

I don't think the Ovy deal happens as it is. I think if he was really going to do something he would have by now. I need to add... to make it happen. Part of the problem is he's in second place and I don't have the horses to help him point wise.

Gotta study the 1st place team and his (2nd place) team. Where are his weaknesses? If its in G'tending. Ya gotta offer up Ward. If he needs another Dman - ya got the right idea, offer up Karlsson but not expect Pietrangelo coming back to you.
The obvious is he will be looking for top tier fwds to replace OV. Duchene is a start. Add another sexy name forward + your 1st round.
Make it appealing to him, then get his attention. Just ask for OV and nobody else.
