I think a lot of the Vanek talk was leaked before this deal was put together. Would make no sense to go after another winger now and like lanky said it would be an obvious ploy to screw buffalo over which would be cheeseball, hoping they don\'t go that route. Now that they\'ve addressed the need for depth they should just consider going after a centre like the rest of the teams out there have to. Guess we\'ll see what Homer is really like soon enuff.

The avg. GM just plain lacks the imagination and patience required to build their teams thru the draft. I guess that some of them get pressured by ownership to get there quicker (cup contending) as well.
This offer sheet business will eventually come to a head and then prolly go away once enuf GM\'s/media trash on it.

Well as much as i don\'t like it, the fact, which has been stated a few times now, is that these guys had all year long to sign the player. This crap about we don\'t negotiate till the off season is garbage. If you were happy with what your player was doing and what he could do why would you let it go on and on. Give the guy his money and hopefully you will get him at a better price than what he will be offered at FA time. By the time the year is over all the other teams know what they\'re lacking and just might start thinking you have what they need. If they had\'ve signed Vanek when he passed his rookie year totals they would\'ve been laughing right now instead of worrying.

This is all about survival. I think that you would see many of the other NHL GM\'s taking the same approach that Philadelphia has adopted if they had the same cap space. I agree that Philly probably aren\'t making many friends. They aren\'t anywhere near finished. You will be hearing a lot about this team in the coming weeks. There are going to be some huge expectations of this team for next season.
