My personal preference is Pitkanen.
I'm looking at strictly this year only. Who would you prefer this year in terms of value for G, A, PPP, SHG?
Thanks!

RW - Hornqvist, Toffoli, Yakupov
D - Karlsson, Niskanen, Vatanen, Faulk
G - Anderson, Mason, Stalock
Agree with MD, Pitkanen has better career stats, and is more proven. I would go with him as well this year.
Cheers.
I'll jump in on the Corvo side. He's got a great team around him and he'll be looked at to run the pp. Pitkanen always worries me every time he stubs his toe. I'm worried one day i'll see an injury report where he decapitated himself shaving and he'll be out 8 weeks.
All kidding aside i like Corvo out of the two.

Although I think it's fairly close, I'd have to go with Pitkanen. He's definitely more consistent stat-wise. The only thing that worries me about Pitkanen is some of the young offensive D-men that they have in Carolina

I like Corvo this year.
Corvo's actually put up 37pts (or more) in 4 of his last 6 seasons.
The other two seasons he's been injured.
So... a healthy Corvo = 37pt+ Corvo
Pitkanen put up a 46pt season two years ago.
But everything else recently has been 35pts or lower.
When I look at the two teams, also consider the competition:
BOS - Not really any PP competition besides Chara. And Chara is more of a slapshot weapon, whereas Corvo has better touch on passing. Also, since Chara has huge ES & PK time, Corvo (by default a bit) may get more PP time.
CAR - They have several young kids with offensive talent AND with poor defensive games. Which means that PM might save Pitkanen for ES & kill-time, because he can't use the kids in those situations. Pitkanen has been the #1 D-man for Carolina thus far on the PP... I'm just saying I see a situation where this changes.
Corvo for me.
Based on how coaches may end up needing to use their D-men.
Very good analysis, and I agree that it's Corvo, but not by much.
From watching the first two Boston games, Corvo looks to be paired with Seidenberg, which should free Corvo to be offensive-minded. And beyond Chara and Corvo, there really are few if any viable offensive options for the Bs, other than perhaps Kampfer, who has not solidified his place on the roster and is a Band-Aid boy.
The only concern I might have is that Corrvo is a right handed shot, so if the Bruins go back to a 1st PP unit with Bergeron (also a right handed shot) at the point as he's been at times in the past, that would push Corvo to the 2nd unit, which would have a negative affect on his stats. Of course, it's also possible that somehow Pitkanen gets slid to the 2nd unit in Carolina, with Kaberle and McBain on the 1st unit.
