    Hello dobberites!

In case you haven't see or heard about him, he is an undrafted college free agent that the Canucks signed out of R.I.T. (NCAA Div. I). He grew up playing with Sam Gagne, but quit hockey for a year after playing Bantam because he was only 5'3" and about 105lb. Then he started to grow. He went undrafted and ended up at R.I.T.. The Canucks signed him as a 20 year old based on Dave Gagne's scouting and knowledge of his play. He's now 6'2" and about 190lb.

Its funny that people on the board have been talking about an older prospect, Lee Sweatt, yet Tanev has not been demoted, is younger and shows more potential imo

I haven't had the chance to see him play that much thought except for a short stretch in saturdays game. His skating stride is impressive. Anybody have any thoughts about him so far?

Tanev looks really good, not sure what the offensive potential is though,
i have watched just about every game he has played now and doesn't make a whole lot of mistakes. I think Sweat gets the attention because he probably has more offensive potential, he's definitely not going to be clearing the front of the net

Yeah... The reason Tanev hasn't been mentioned much is because nothing he's done has screamed offense... BUT, that's not to say he can't develop that part of his game later on. He's simply doing what we need him to right now, which is great.

The way I would describe Tanev's play is that he'll make the odd nice pass or defensive play, doesn't make many mistakes, and definitely isn't hurting us. You kind of forget he's playing, which to me just means he's not screwing up, so I'm happy.

Whereas Lee Sweatt down in Manitoba was on the PP, he isn't afraid to pinch, and is basically doing the few things we ask of him so far... Which isn't be a shutdown Dman. Could you imagine Rudy trying to clear the front of the net with a guy like Buttfugly in the playoffs? I'm glad he's not in Chicago anymore... :P

Thought I'd revive this thread after Tanev's solid performance last night. Nothing to get too crazy-excited about from a fantasy perspective, yet, but he's definitely worth keeping an eye on. My league has a deep farm system so I have him stashed. If he sticks with the Canucks for the next few years, I'm thinking at the least he could end up a great 5th or 6th D-man, probably helping out mostly with assts and +/-.

Guy can move the puck like a motha*#@#!*

If Erhoff doesn't re-sign there is potential for him to see some decent PP time on the second unit, potentially the first if Vancouver wants more experience on the second (I see Edler the only shoe-in for first unit time next year). Kid has been nothing but steady and chilled, let's hope he doesn't turn into the next Evan Oberg.

Kid is a stud. Won't be a huge point producer (doesn't have the shot for it), but should become a steady top 4 25-30 pt guy. All about poise.

So Tanev has made the team. There aren't many offensive prospects available in my league. Is he worth a flyer? Potential 30 pt dman eh? He's just so slick - reminds me of Paul Martin a little bit.

No. Definitely not this year. Great potential but doubt we shall see any decent production for a few years.
