Not sure if it makes a difference, but he was actually 19 when he signed his ELC contract.

He is still 22, turns 23 in December.

I believe the age on 31st December is the decisive factor in this regard.

In which case wouldn't this clause be used?
For anyone 20 or older, the year in which they play their first professional game is considered the first year counting towards the number of years they are exempt from waivers.
Meaning that because his first NHL game wasn't until the 2010-11 season, that is the first of the 3 years he is exempt from waivers?

EDIT: Nevermind, maybe AHL is also considered professional here, which actually would be 08-09.

Does anyone else think these rules are too damn complicated?

Yes. I am now under the assumption that pretty much anybody has to clear waivers once their ELC is over. I have no idea if that is correct or not but it's what I'm going with.

I think the lineup-up was supposed to be as follows.

Cormier was just sent down BTW.

    Ladd-Little-Wheeler
    Kane-Scheifele-Wellwood/MacLean?
    Wellwood/MacLean?-Burmistrov-Antropov
    Glass-Slater-Thorburn
I think he'll be given a shot on that 2nd line with Kane and Scheifele.

On TSN's pre-season show last night they had Wellwood there, but I think MacLean is POTENTIALLY a way better fit. He'll be given the chance to produce, he just has to grab the bull by the horns like Grabner did last year.

AHL definately is a professional league in regards of these waiver rules.

Beside Burmistrov or Schiefele looks mighty fine to me!

That's what I was thinking but I'd feel better (as I just picked him up) if the Jets would make some sort of announcement and reveal their plans for him.

    I'm hoping you are right.

I like this for MacLean. Out of the mess in PHX, into a town excited for hockey again, should be a shot in the arm for him. And if I'm the Jets, I put him right on that 2nd line with Kane/Scheifele immediately, see what the kid has, hope he pulls a Grabner and stakes his NHL claim. I've had MacLean on my roto keeper farm for 3 years now, waiting, waiting, waiting....here's to it all paying off for him and us!

MacLean > Wellwood. He needs to be on the second line! Great move!
