I was just offered a great trade:

My: 1st round pick (Forward A)
for
His: 5th round pick (Forward B)

Why do people do this?...

...throw a 1:1 offer at you a few days after the draft that basically says "Hey man, I'm wondering if you want to downgrade your 1st round pick to the guy I grabbed in the 5th round."

maybe he thinks you won't notice that you could have grabbed the player with any of your first 5 picks, if you really wanted him.

I can understand this maybe a few weeks after a draft, if some NHL games have been played and perhaps your opinion of the involved players might have changed a bit. But nothing has changed in 3 days.

A couple years ago in a one year local roto pool (yahoo, standard cats) a guy offered his Markov (9th round) for his son's Getzlaf (10th overall). The collusion was quite obvious given their history and this was a good precursor to what was about to happen that season. I almost lost a lead at the end and had to do some finesse with filling out the final GP just to win.
