Default DiPietro in 1st Round? Sweet baby geebus...

    League in 2nd sig. Cats: G, A, PTS, +/-, PIM, W, SHO

I just took over this team and we have our draft this weekend. We just completed the draft lottery and I have the 3rd pick.

37 goalies were kept. 5 of the 12 teams have horrible goaltending (mine is 2nd worst). The two (likely) starters available are M Smith and D Dubnyk. I expect they will be chosen with the 1st and 2nd picks as both of the teams ahead of me also have awful tenders. The list of other potential starting Gs available:

NYI: Montoya / DiPietro / Nabokov

Most back-ups are available other than:

    Schneider / Rask / Bernier / Neuvirth / Nittymaki

Would you use the 3rd pick to draft Montoya, DiPietro or Nabby? Another goalie?

If not, who would you pick? Obviously my RW is also really weak. Notables available are:

    Hornqvist / J. Williams / Stafford / Jagr / Bourque

and I also need another solid D in case Shatty shatts the bed...

    Ryan Whitney / Kronwall / Fowler / Hamonic / Hedman / Bieska

My centers arent great either...maybe start minor rebuild by selecting RNH?

    Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

As far as the NYI goalies, Nabokov is far and away the best option IMO. Dubnyk may be available as well who would be a better option than several of those.

If you need RW and are going for it I'd look hard at Jagr. Longer term, Hornqvist.

Fowler would probably be the guy I'd look at overall though. Hedman is another option.

And if you're not competing, you have to go RNH.

if Dubnyk does drop to you, draft him. if youre not competing i say you have to get RNH or Fowler and try and trade Keith for some goalie help

without knowing how loaded some of the contenders in your league are, i say take nabakov and go for it, your forwards are solid, quick is far better than anyone imagined.

as a combo, nabby and quick are a bit of a gamble, but if things work out like they should, and most teams have as crappy a tender situation as you say, then that duo should be around 5th or 6th best.

NYI will be at least decent this season, and if nabby is at the same form as he was in san jose, they could actually be very good.

I expect breakout seasons from benn and okposo, adding them to your big four, is actually a very solid foundation at forward....i think your real issue is defense.

But seriously, i think theres enough there to go for it if u get a second tender.
