    Default GAA & Save %

    Curious how the scoring works in leagues where GAA and save % are used? Are you given certain points for each game depending on the goalies stats? For example the goalie will receive 5 points for having a GAA of 2.00 or less a game and another 5 points if his save % is above .900?

    My league uses W and SO, which are easily calculated.

    As I said just curious, any info would be nice to know. Thanks!

    Well you're kinda mingling formats a bit I think...

    usually when stats representing averages are used they are either in a traditional H2H or roto format. With the former you would win that category for the week if your goalies had a better average than your opponent and for the latter its the same thing but usually calculated over the entire season with all your goalie starts

    in league formats that award a point value for each category I've never seen stats like GAA or S% used...instead what we usually do is count the raw stats...so for example in take a look at the league in my sig

    SV=.08
    GA=-.64

    since goals scored on your goalie is bad you get a negative for each, but saves net you a positive...so say my goalie stops 30/32 shots he would get

    .08 X 30 = 2.4
    -.64 x 2 = -1.28

    total = 1.12

    some leagues count Shots Against too but I think that's stupid since its only a reflection of how shitty (esp on defense) the team playing in front of the goalie is, its not a goalie stat

    (Similar post as McGoo's comments, different points allocated)

    One of the most common scoring systems is to translate GAA & SV% into points.
    Save = +0.1
    GA = -1.0
    Very common in most leagues due to the following benchmarks:

    0.909 SV% is pretty much a NHL benchmark for a #1 goalie.
    A #1 goalie better damn well be above this be considered good.

    10/11 saves = .909 SV% = 0points = 10x0.1 - 1.0

    2.000 GAA is pretty much the GOLD standard of GAA.
    3.000 GAA is pretty much the GARBAGE standard of GAA.

    A typical goalie faces 30 shots per game.
    26/30 saves = 2.6 - 4.0 = -1.4 (negative, crap game)
    27/30 saves = 2.7 - 3.0 = -0.3 (slight negative, fine... not great game)
    28/30 saves = 2.8 - 2.0 = +0.8 (slight positive, OK... good game)
    29/30 saves = 2.9 - 1.0 = +1.9 (big positive, great game)
    30/30 saves = 3.0 - 0.0 = +3.0 (and some leagues give a bonus for a SO... but you don't have to)

    These numbers work fairly well and using +0.1/save & -1.0/goals against are good numbers... because a goal against is... well... negative one!

    yup that's a good point man, I had forgotten about that kind of scoring, you don't see it as often but it is a decent way to do it
